David walked down the street. The sun was setting. All he wanted to do was play basketball with Jim. But his mother told him to return his sister's books to the library on the way to Jim's house first.
Actually, he never stepped into a public library. He planned to just leave the books in the return box outside the door, but it was locked. So he had to go inside to return them.
David walked inside the building a few minutes before the closing time. He gave the books to the librarian. After a quick drink of water and a short stop in the restroom, he would be on his way to meet Jim. He walked out of the restroom. To his surprise, the library was completely dark. He was locked in the library.
David tried to use the telephone, but he couldn't find one. He looked for a light but only found a flashlight on the desk. He used a pencil to write a note on a large piece of paper. It read, "I'm locked inside. Please call for help! "He taped(用胶带粘住) it to the glass window and hoped that someone would see it. He then turned his attention to the library itself.
He was surprised to find that this place was not so bad. Rows and rows of books! When he saw a book about Michael Jordan on a desk, he picked it up and began to read. For a moment, it didn't seem to be such a terrible thing in the library.
Ann is a ten-year-old girl. On weekends, she doesn't go to school and usually plays outside with her friends. It was Sunday yesterday and there were storm. In the time of the Yellow Emperor, there were no written words. People remembered things by tying knots(打结)in ropes and carving(雕刻)shapes on stone walls.
One day, the Yellow Emperor discussed a matter with a wise man named Cang Jie. Cang took out a piece of knotted rope, but he found it was rotten (腐烂的). It was impossible for him to remember the matter clearly. Then he turned to a stone wall, but he could hardly read the shapes on it because they were carved by another person.

Cang thought over the problem for days and nights. One morning after a heavy snowfall, he saw the footprints of some different animals. These footprints helped him recognize what animals passed by. All the shapes on the stone walls came into his mind. Cang kept making all kinds of shapes on the ground. He paid attention to drawing. These symbols shone brightly in the snow.
In the end, Cang created a whole set of symbols to help people remember things. People could easily understand these symbols. Since then, they have been able to write down their own history in this way.
① When a disaster(灾难) happens, you might find yourself without water, gas and electricity. You might even need to leave your home right away. So you are supposed to plan for the bad situations before the disaster comes. Here are some suggestions:
