Jan makes a time capsule for her history project and buries it beside the apple tree in her garden. Then she goes to bed and dreams of the future. In the future, Jan's house is in the middle of a big city. She looks out of her window and there are streets full of people. There are lots of tall buildings full of light. There are shops, cinemas and a big sports stadium. She looks up and there are taxis flying in the sky. It's night but there's light and color everywhere. 

The next morning Jan wakes up five minutes before the alarm clock rings at seven o'clock. She remembers her dream. "The future is an exciting place, " she thinks as she gets out of bed and looks out of the window. The tree is still there. The other houses are still there. There is still no port here. She is still in her town, Port Prime. She isn't in the future. She's in the present and it's time to get ready for school. 

She has a shower, gets dressed and goes downstairs for breakfast. She always has the same things for breakfast: a glass of fruit juice, some toast with jam and an apple. 

Then Jan walks to school. School starts at 8:45 with a morning meeting. Today is Friday, the best day of the week. Jan likes Fridays because she has all her favorite classes-English, art, Spanish and then history. 

"How many of you completed your project and made a time capsule?" Mrs. Zinger, the history teacher, asks. 

Jan holds up her hand and looks around. No one in the class puts his or her hand up. Jan's face turns red. When she feels alone, she hears a boy's voice from the back of the class suddenly. 

"I made one, Mrs. Zinger, " he smiles at Jan. 

After class Jan sees Michael standing in the hallway. She walks up to him. 

"Hi, Michael! What did you put in your time capsule?"

"Nothing. I didn't make a time capsule, " Michael replies. 

"But you said you had made one in class. Why?"

"Haha! That's because I know how it feels to be alone. "

Who doesn't wish he could fly like a bird? Well, until technology can give us all wings, one of our best choices is paragliding （滑翔伞运动）. Paragliding works by sitting in a harness. The harness is tied to a parachute （降落伞） and you use the wind to fly. To paraglide, you usually need to go somewhere high, like a hill or mountain. The pilot will first make the parachute full of air by pulling it up like a kite, and then it's time to run down the hillside until you reach a good speed to take off. Unless you have a special license to do it yourself, you will fly with a pilot. 

I went paragliding in Peru's Sacred Valley, from a mountain more than 3, 000 meters above sea level. The most difficult part of paragliding for me was not the flying, but the waiting. I started to feel nervous about watching others go ahead of me. But the pilot helped keep me composed. So I didn't feel nervous. 

On an average paragliding trip, you can expect to enjoy flying like a bird for 10 to 30 minutes. Then it's time to land. I remember the pilot told me to get my legs ready, as landing on your legs is the safest way to land-just like a bird. 

Paragliders have set some amazing records, like the highest flight (9, 946 meters) and the longest flight (9, 132 km). In 2020, a Canadian man named Benjamin Jordan became the first person to travel by paraglider from Mexico to Canada (not all in one go, though). He was inspired to do it because of the great migration （迁徙） of monarch butterflies. Each year, millions of these butterflies travel up to 4, 800 km to complete their journey!

The Yangtze River is also called the Changiang River. It is the world's third  （最长的） river. It starts on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, in  （西部的） China. Its mouth is the East China Sea, near Shanghai. 

The Yangtze River goes through  (十一) provinces of China and its area is about 1, 800, 000 square kilometers of land. The river has  （可用作） as a means of transportation for 2, 000 years. The area has （超过） 760 large lakes, including Dongting Lake, Poyang Lake, Taihu Lake, Chaohu Lake and so on. Lots of buildings  （出现） on the banks of and near the Yangtze River very early in the history of human civilization. Large  （轮船） can still sail 1, 000 kilometers inland and steamers can go even farther, as far as 1, 600 kilometers from the sea. The river is also used for sight-seeing tours and for （私人的） travel. 

The river is also a bringer of trade. In its travels, the Yangtze River brings a great deal of silt on bank area in Jiangsu Province, where rice is grown. This large area is home to a large part of the  （世界的） rice production. 

The Yangtze River passes through the Three Gorges Dam, one of the largest dams in the world,  （也）. The dam is also one of the most wonderful sights in China. 

Usually you'd go to a public place to watch a concert. one of my good friends in Beijing hosts special concerts in his own home. 

My friend Elie calls  event "Yichang at Home". Every month or so, he invites some of his favorite  (music)-as well as a group of his friends- to come to his house to play music and hang out.

A cicada is an insect. It is about three centimeters long. Like many other insects, it has six legs and two compound eyes. The adult cicada also has two sets of wings. Cicadas do not cause any harm. They do not bite. They do not carry any diseases. And they do not eat plants. 

There are over two thousand kinds of cicadas around the world. Australia has more than two hundred different kinds of cicadas. And you can find about one hundred and fifty different kinds in South Africa. Besides, there are about one hundred and twenty kinds in China. Most cicadas come out of the ground once every year. But there are seven kinds of cicadas that stay under the ground for many years. Three of these live underground for seventeen years! All of these cicadas are found only in the United States. 

In a cicada's whole life, it mainly goes through two stages. In the beginning, when a cicada is under the ground, it is called a baby cicada. It drinks juice from tree roots and it is covered in a hard shell. At this time, it has no wings-just legs. After coming out of the ground, it breaks out of its old shell, Under the old shell is a new shell and four wings. Gradually, the baby cicada grows into an adult. After a cicada becomes an adult, it only has about a month to live. Before it dies, it must mate with another cicada. This is why the cicada sings. The male cicadas sing to appeal to the females. 

The idiom "ban jin ba liang" means "six of one and half a dozen of the other". It is usually used to show that two parts have the same1 Are half of one jin and eight liang the same? Yes, they used to2 the same meaning. In the old Chinese weight measuring3 , one jin was divided into 16 liang. So half of one jin was4 liang at that time. 

Just like today, ancient people took honesty5 . To make sure everyone traded fairly, there were 16 gradations on the6 of a scale, which was used for weighing things. The 16 gradations therefore7 16 stars-the Big Dipper, the Southern Dipper and the stars of fortune, prosperity and longevity. 

When trading, if you were not8 , you would not receive the blessing of those stars. If you were short of one liang, you would lose the favour9 the star of fortune. If you were short of two liang, you would lose prosperity. If you were short of three liang, you would lose years from your10 . It was expected that with this11 , people would be more honest when they were doing their12 .

China sent its Shenzhou- 16 manned spaceship at 9:31 a. m. on May 30，2023. The spaceship （携带） three astronauts. Several hours later, they entered their "space home", the Tiangong space station.

Before their arriva, China （已经） had three Shenzhou-15 astronauts on Tiangong. They were sent to the space station in （十一月）, 2022. To welcome the new members, they tidied the Tianhe Core Module. The six astronauts took a group picture to （庆祝） their meeting in space. They lived and worked together for 5 days. On June 4, 2023，the Shenzhou-15 astronauts （返回） to the earth after their own six-month trip.

The Shenzhou-16 is led by Jing Haipeng. He has become the first Chinese astronaut to go into space for a fourth time. The （其他的） two members are the space engineer Zhu Yangzhu and the payload expert Gui Haichao. （都） of them are newcomers to space. Zhu is China's first flight engineer heading to space. Gui is the country's first astronaut who wears （眼镜）. This has made ma any people feel （惊讶的）.

France recently passed a law about influencers. Influencers need to let people know that they are selling things. They must not sell cigarettes or alcohol. As for make-up, they can use a filter to make the products look better only if they let viewers know. Also, they shouldn't ask people to take part in betting.

According to a report, over 42 million consumers in France purchase goods or services online. This law is to protect both influencers and consumers on social networks, especially about advertising contents and child labor.

There are about 150,000 influencers in France affected by the law. If an influencer breaks the law, then he or she can end up in prison for up to two years. Also, he or she may face a fine of up to 300,000 euros (about 2,300,000 yuan).

France is the first European country to have such a law. It wants to stop influencers from cheating and protect people who use the Internet, especially the younger ones, according to French lawmaker Stephane Vojetta.

"It is a field in which we believe in because it creates jobs and because it values French culture and creativity," said Bruno Le Maire, the French economy minister, describing the influencer economy at a press conference in March.

"The best way to protect it is to make a framework and rules so that in this area, there are no profiteers or people who can take advantage of the weakness of certain consumers," Bruno Le Maire said.
