The doorbell rang one mid-December evening. I frequently had unexpected visitors in those early days after my husband's 1 . But when my 6-year-old son opened the door, nobody was there. 2 , on the doormat was a box, tied with a silver 3 and a note that said "On the First Day of Christmas..." A mystery.

Sam had died that fall, 4 me the single parent of our two boys, 6 and 8. My sons and I had already 5 to deal with Halloween, and Thanksgiving without Daddy. Still, I was afraid of Christmas. How could December have 6 without my husband?

The next night, the doorbell rang again. Another 7 came, decorated with the same silver ribbon (带子) and 8 the same card reading "On the Second Day of Christmas..."

For the next couple of nights, my boys waited near the front door to see who was leaving the gifts, but the bearer would always choose the moment they left to 9 .

I didn't know who the secret Santa was. But there was one thing I did know. In those dark days of 10 , somebody was shining a light our way with a simple but 11 message: "You are loved." It was such a strange feeling, to be left in darkness on the one hand and drawn so firmly toward 12 on the other. I believe hope will make a(n) 13 .

After 11 days of offerings, we weren't sure what to 14 when we approached home on that 12th night. I trusted there would be 15 .

When I was a little boy, the dinner on the eve of the Spring Festival wasI looked forward to most. It was not only for the delicious food that we seldom got to eat, but also an opportunity to have the family gathered together. I would run  (happy) with my sister in the house, while my mom was preparing food in the kitchen. She would put some tokens in some dumplings; candies for a sweet life, and peanuts for a long and healthy . In the evening, we would sit around the table, toasted each other and enjoyed the homemade dishes, which tasted much better than anything  (cook) in the restaurant.

However, for the last three years, we  (eat) out for the Spring Festival family dinner, and we have enjoyed it no less than eating at home. I don't understand why some people refuse this change. Can't they admit that the  (prepare) for a dinner is hard work? It is not worth the effort of spending so much time cooking a single meal. We work all year, so why can't one day be about spending time with family and  (relax). Eating out is a good choice and it has nothing to do  loss of traditions. We still have the dinner with the same people, just in a different place. The occasion is more _(enjoy) without that tiring cooking.

In spite of the fact that I had stayed with my sister for 14 years. I knew one thing—I would not want to be like her. In high school, she was a journalist and it was 1 she talked about. No matter how many times I said it, I 2 myself in "Intro to Journalism" freshman year,3 . Why? That was because my mother wanted me to be a journalist, 

Though it was the4 thing I wanted to do, I got to realize the point of being a journalist. It was 5 writing a report. It was also communicating with people by telling stories. After a short term, I began to see what happened around me 6 —I saw things as7 , which I wanted to share with people who wants to 8 .

In the second semester, I joined the newspaper staff and 9 nearly every position on staff, from designing different columns to taking photographs. I wrote stories, opinions, and almost any other thing for every 10 of the paper.

I loved everything around me, but I found my gift in visual journalism. I had a/an 11 for design and I was12 ready to put in. When I was writing each story, I promised to tell in its entirety. There is possibility that some 13 of a story can't be presented in a paragraph form. That is 14 I came in. I worked to improve the 15 of our magazine every day. But my work is not 16 to this. I also worked to add the web and multimedia 17 the publication. I loved producing content for the newspaper. 18 , I found myself creating less and less through my junior year. Then 1 was thinking up ideas and helping others to do the 19 to make their work happen.

Now, I'm proud to say that I have fully made 20 of what it means to be a good storyteller.
