We're living in modern times and it seems like we never have enough time. We all get the same amount in a day, a week, and a year. It just depends on how we use it. Rather than all getting the same amount of time to spend, ? What if we could control the way we consume our time to a greater extent? Here are three unexpected ways to give ourselves more time. 

Help others 

This might seem strange, but people who have more time often give it away through volunteering and helping others. A study that compared the opportunities to waste time, spend time on oneself, or spend a gift of time found that giving time selflessly actually increased people's perception of time. ? 

When we do the same things every day, our brains tend to take shortcuts, and our efforts don't require as much conscious thought. This makes time seem to go more quickly. In contrast, when we do things in new or unexpected ways, our brains engage more consciously. We experience time as slowing down because we're more present and putting more work into the thinking that goes into the task. We can apply this research by selecting when we choose to do things in new ways versus our typical way. . But if you want to extend your perception of time, take the winding road or a new route on the way home from the office. 

Take control

. It's a problem when we have too much to do in too little time, especially when we're not the ones deciding how we spend our time. We can take back a sense of having enough time by incorporating as much control as possible, and by redesigning our days. Even the simple act of pausing for 10 minutes to think about how you want to spend your time-which project to start on, which call to return, or which email to prioritize-can reassert a greater sense of time abundance.

Brainstorming really can play a role in your studies. It can help open up your imagination. You can brainstorm alone or in a group ； either way can help increase the number of ideas you come up with.

For instance, you can try free-writing. Write your problem at the top of a page. Once you do that, just begin writing. Using this technique can help get your ideas flowing, as well as help you make connections you haven't thought of. When you've spent at least 10 or 15 minutes free-writing or when you feel like you've reached a stopping point, look back over your writing and highlight or circle anything that might be useful.

You can start with your problem in the center within a circle. Use a line to branch off the main idea with another idea. Group like ideas together with lines. Start new branches for new ideas. This technique is also good for making connections, especially since you can represent it visually.

Individual brainstorming is the most effective when you need to solve a simple problem, generate a list of ideas, or focus on a broad issue. In a group, be sure to brainstorm before you get together so you have some time to think. Make sure to avoid criticizing or rewarding ideas» as that can stop people from bringing up ideas and limiting creativity. The leader can throw out a topic or problem , and then the group can bounce ideas off of each other. Will the ideas be good or not too good? The deeper analysis you have made, the higher it should be to fix the problem to your benefit.

Before children learn to read, they need to have a good understanding of basic words and what they mean. And while that may sound a bit overwhelming（令人不知所措的）, there are very easy ways that you can build a preschooler's vocabulary.

Visit the Library

If you are lookıng for a great place to start building your preschooler's vocabulary and early reading skills, look no further than your local library.  Children's libraries often have fun activities, which will expose them to new words and give them an opportunity to socialize.

Teach and Strengthen the Alphabet（字母表）

 The bonus: it's a great way to keep your preschooler busy on long car rides, or while waiting in lines. You can also play games using the alphabet, where you name items that start with letters in alphabetical order.

Use Descriptive Words

When it comes to increasing your child's vocabulary, more is better.  For example, when describing a fabric pattern, try using words such as unusual, relaxing, or creative. By using them in the proper context（语境）, they become understandable.

Make Labels

If you want your preschooler to learn more words, then make it easy.  Use a label maker to name commonly used items so they learn to recognize what the word looks like.

Read Aloud Together

Reading aloud is a great way to expose your preschooler to new words. Together you can work out what they mean by using context the other words or pictures that might be on the page.

Reading is an exercise for the mind. It is good for our vocabulary and literacy skills, teaching us math or science concepts and helping us learn history.  Have you read a story and felt tears well up because of a character's suffering? If so, that is because you have empathy (共情) for the character. Empathy is a magic eye that sees into other people's hearts and it can be learned through various fictions. 

 Research shows that human brains react differently to stories and facts. Many more areas of your brain light up when you're enjoying a story, and your brain thinks you are in the story. .

Empathy helps you to read people's emotions and work out the best way to respond. This skill, called emotional intelligence (EI), can make it easier to communicate and connect with people.  One study found that people who read the Harry Potter novels, which tell stories about humans fighting against the evil, were less likely to behave unfairly towards powerless groups including refugees (难民).

     After reading The Boy at the Back of the Class, a story about a boy who is a refugee escaping from the war, students in St Michael's High School were inspired to do a 10-mile walk for the non-profit organization Refugee Action. Their empathy also stimulated them to raise £1,000 for people who were forced to leave their homes because of war.

Reading encourages us to empathise with others, which could potentially lead to several beneficial outcomes. Not only are we more likely to engage in helpful behaviors when we feel empathy for other people, but others are also more likely to help us when they experience empathy. .

The process of sorting through my childhood stuff started out easy. At first, I was excited to toss everything out. But as the bedroom emptied out, I felt a creeping sense of sadness. My childhood was over, and I entered full-fledged (成熟的) adulthood. And I wondered:  In short, yes.

 That's because going through your old stuff can possibly stir up difficult emotions or sweet memories. whatever emotions pop up, accept them, and it will help you process it faster.

Before you start sorting, determine how much storage space you're willing to devote to your childhood items.  You may have limited space for old stuff. But listen to your heart. If you're sentimental and you want to hold on to stuff, hold on to it. You can always get rid of it later.

During this process, it can be useful to have someone you trust by your side. They can help you honor the memories associated with each object and let go.  They know which life experiences mean the most to you.

And you don't have to pile your childhood stuff in the attic (阁楼).  You can take photos, which you can revisit any time on your phone or computer. Or you can turn them into an art project and display it in a shadow box.

Remember, there is someone who care enough to hold on all old stuff for you. This is a value of all of the time and effort and money your parents have poured into you. This has been saved in love.

In some countries, many families are choosing camping as an affordable way to vacation due to the cost-of-living crisis (危机).  Here are several tips to help make your first camping trip a success.

Camping needs careful planning. Making a detailed list of what to bring ensures nothing important is forgotten. It is advised to pack light and easy-to-set-up tents (帐篷). It's also important to choose equipment suitable for the season. For families, bringing comfort items like favorite books or toys can make the new environment more welcoming for kids.  Other necessaries like wet wipes (湿巾) are must-haves.

Camping is more than just setting up a tent.  Group camping trips can simplify things, especially when it comes to meals. Sharing meal responsibilities with other families not only reduces the load but also improves the shared experience. Choosing simple and easy-to-prepare foods helps too.

 Activities like treasure hunts, campfire stories can turn camping into an adventure. Nature itself offers endless enjoyment, from bird watching to plant recognizing. Moreover, camping is also an opportunity to teach kids valuable life skills and safety lessons. From cooking over a campfire to learning about nature, these experiences are both educational and enjoyable. Safety lessons are also important, like staying within campsites and recognizing dangerous plants.

All in all, camping is a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time with family.

You can be more resilient (有适应力的) Resilience is about how we react to changing circumstances with mental strength. In a garden, you will likely enjoy many successes, but you will experience many failures, too. This will help you build your patience, learn to handle disappointments and gain confidence. .

You can build more skills. Becoming resilient involves being able to take a greater level of control over your own basic needs.  You can build skills not only in gardening, but also in other skills like DIY, crafting, repair, cooking, and food preservation as you create and tend your garden and process the produce you grow.

 Gardening can allow you to reduce daily concerns as you can harvest a lot from your space. This leaves more time and space for other considerations. You learn to look beyond your own basic needs and recognize the needs of others—human and non-human—in the world around you.

You can become more compassionate (有同情心的).  This is something that you will come to appreciate when you use your garden to the fullest. Recognizing the gifts that nature gives you can help to increase your compassion, to recognize that others are less fortunate, and to reach out to others in a wide range of ways.

Your manager stops you and says she needs to have a word about your performance in the recent project. She begins by praising you for the good work you've done on the project, and you wonder if this is the praise that starts off the typical "feedback sandwich".  Say something nice, say what you really want to say, say something nice again. 

However, when feedback becomes such a routine, employees can start to perceive positive feedback as simply a form of sugarcoating the negatives, thus decreasing its value. Instead, positive feedback should not simply be seen as something to cushion the negative.  Below are three tips to help you make positive feedback count. 

 When positive and negative feedback always appear to go hand in hand, the positives can become devalued and ignored. Ensure there are times when positive feedback is given for its own sake and resist the temptation to offer constructive criticism. 

Cultivate a "growth mindset". Many of us tend to focus our praise on the end result and seeming inborn talents. For example,  However, research suggests that by focusing on the process of box things are done, we can encourage the development of new skills and the continued enhancement of talents. 

Create a culture of offering positive feedback. Make giving positive feedback part of your team culture. Don't just wait for special moments to give feedback. Offer informal positive feedback when making small talk.  Encourage peer feedback among team members and colleagues and actively ask them for positive comments on each other's performances on tasks.

We see hundreds of logos on signs, vehicles, websites, and even on the clothes we are dressed in. All these logos are intended to attract our attention.  However, recent research supports the idea that remembering what a logo looks like is a very difficult task.

Researchers gave 85 students a simple assignment to draw the logo of a famous company from memory. Surprisingly, only one student could make it. Researchers have developed a theory that they think might help explain this blind spot in our memories.

Logos are typically designed to be simple and easy to recognize with a quick glance. Yet the frequent exposure to these logos can actually make our brains overlook them. This process is known as attention saturation (注意力饱和) 

 we become familiar with them. This constant exposure leads to the situation where our brains remember the basic idea without all of the details. This general sense of memory has its own benefits. In fact, being familiar with a popular logo can even make people feel more comfortable about buying or using certain products.

Nowadays, logos are everywhere. A fancy design or a thoughtful (体贴的) colour combination may be a good start for a logo concept , but there are some other things to consider.  Maybe a clever design is well worth trying.

Secret codes (密码) keep messages private. Banks, companies, and government agencies use secret codes in doing business, especially when information is sent by computer.

People have used secret codes for thousands of years. Code breaking never lags (落后) far behind code making. The science of creating and reading coded messages is called cryptography.

There are three main types of cryptography. For example, the first letters of "My elephant eats too many eels" spell out the hidden message "Meet me."

You might represent each letter with a number, for example. Let's number the letters of the alphabet, in order, from 1 to 26. If we substitute a number for each letter, the message "Meet me" would read "13 5 5 20 13 5."

A code uses symbols to replace words, phrases, or sentences. To read the message of a real code, you must have a code book. For example, "bridge" might stand for "meet" and "out" might stand for "me." The message "Bridge out" would actually mean "Meet me." However, it is also hard to keep a code book secret for long. So codes must be changed frequently.
