    Shanghai has been my home, sweet home for ten years now. I never thought that when I came here in 2004 from Toronto that I would stay this long, but I fell in love with the city as soon as my plane landed at Pudong International Airport.

    Shanghai is one of the greatest cities of the world. It is alive and exciting. Here, everything is new and everything seems possible. When I arrived there were only three Metro lines (地铁线). Today there are sixteen. Ten years ago, many people still lived in poor neighbourhoods with houses that did not have bathrooms or even hot water. Today, most people live much better.

    I enjoy walking down the cool, tree-lined streets of the French Concession (法租界) during the summer and seeing the old, Western-style houses. Many street vendors (小贩) have gone, but you can still buy some delicious street food in places. Near Shanghai Indoor Stadium (体育馆), in winter, there is always someone selling hot sweet potatoes baked in a barrel (桶). It's a great snack on a cold day.

    But what I like most about Shanghai is the people. People in Shanghai are friendly and talkative. They're also not afraid to try something new which is why fashion is so popular here. From unusual hairstyles to colourful clothes, people in Shanghai like to dress up and stand out in the crowd.

    With its mixture of old and new, with its brightness and charm, I am proud to call Shanghai my home, sweet home.

    Most of us use alarm clocks to wake up at the right time for work. We look at our wto know when to catch a bus or train. However, there is also a right time to eat, sleep, exercise, and take medicine, too. We can't look at a clock for the right time for these activities. We must listen to the clock inside our b our biological clock.

For example, it is best for people to go to sleep at the stime every night and to eat only when they're hungry. When patients take heart medicine at night, they may prevent a heart ain the morning.

Miss Li asked again, "Why don't you answer my4? Didn't I tell you what water is like?" Just then a boy put up his hand and said, "Miss Li, you told us that water has no colour and no smell. But5to find such kind of water? The water6the river behind my house is always black and it has a bad smell." Most of the children agreed with him. "I'm sorry, children," said the teacher, "Our water is getting dirtier and dirtier. That's a problem."

    We live in the computer age. People like scientists, teachers, writers and students use computers to do all kinds of work. But 30 years ago, computers couldn't do many things. They were very big and expensive then. Today computers are smaller and cheaper. Because they can do a lot of work, many people like to use them. Some people have them at home. Computers have become very important because they can work faster than people. Writers now use computers to write. Teachers use them to help teach. Students use them to study and children use them to play games. Computers can also remember what you put into them. Computers are vey useful and helpful. They are our good friends.
