A few people have lucid (清醒的) dreams, in the dreamer is aware they're dreaming and can control the experience. Some others can learn (have) lucid dreams. The practice can be used to deal with frightening dreams. However, its potential has been limited by it often (be) so hard to achieve. Now, researchers have developed the most effective method yet for promoting lucid dreams.

    The researchers let 121 adults aged 19 to 75 pick something (see)in a previous dream. It was called a "dreamsign" that can serve a reminder to become lucid when met again. The (volunteer) were then handed capsules. Each person got a high-dose (大剂量的) capsule, a low-dose capsule and a placebo (无效对照剂) capsule, but they couldn't tell which was which. On three occasions, they woke in middle of the night, took a capsule, imagined their dreamsign and went back to sleep. The high dose was most effective, causing lucid dreams in 42 per cent of participants. About 27 per cent (report) lucid dreams with the low dose and 14 per cent after taking the placebo capsule.

    The potential applications are (excite). "This new method has the success rate we need to be able to (proper) do research on lucid dreaming," says Denholm Aspy at the University of Adelaide in Australia.

Last week, 18 students from our school, including me, participated  the Speech and Debate in our city. The competition lasted for a whole day. I could see that many of my teammates were nervous. But all the time when we were not competing, we would go to the rooms where our teammates were waiting for their turn （perform）, and encourage them whenever we could with a V sign while they were on the stage. In the end, our team won two first （place）!

Although I didn't get a prize at the award ceremony,  was what I had hoped for, I learned about friendship, teamwork, and to believe in myself. My teammates gave me （confident）and hope all the time, and this （be）something that I will never forget later on. To be honest, on the day when I was going to compete, there was a knot（结）that （tie）in my heart. I kept thinking, "You are not so （familiarly）with everybody in this team. Would they ignore you?"

But after all we were through, I felt that we were  true family and simply laughed at myself for （have）such an immature and stupid thought.

My Male Flatmates

For the majority of my adult life I have lived with mostly women. Our flatshares have been loud and intimate. But for the past year I have lived with two young men, who also happen to be my friends. It has been fascinating. In fact, I have spent a large portion of that time sitting in a dimly lit corner of the house, making notes, just so I can turn them both into a column. So, this is what I have learnt from my two darling boys.

The glassware shelf is incredibly exclusive in terms of quality, a situation brought about by the fact thatof my housemates are product designers. The glass itself must be thin and perfectly proportioned,(vote) into the cupboard like it's a private members'club. "Megan, have you seen this," said one of my housemates the other evening. He was standing in the kitchen, solemn and disappointed, holding a Buxton cider glass. "It (enter) our home. ""Yes," I said," it's a pint glass from a pub. ""Oh my God," he said, shaking his head. And I looked at the pint glass and thought: you are livingborrowed time, my friend. All I know is that poor glass will happen to go missing on a day when I happen(work) from the office.

Dating in a house of girls is essentially a group activity.  you even get home your housemates want to know how he said hello, what drink he ordered andhe waited for the green man when you were walking back to the station. My male housemates, largely, don't give a toss. I have to loiter (wander) around their rooms asking them if they want to hear how it all(go), like a has-been celebrity desperate to share her old stories. When I was a bit heartbroken they didn't really know what to say - but they did go out to the shops, at a reasonable hour, cook me a fish pie,divide it into three and hand me huge mountain of food in my favourite bowl. They poured me a glass of wine in one of their fussy tumblers that looked bloody fabulous, and they sat either side of me on the sofa and said it'll get better, you know, and I love them very very dearly

With the recent relaxation in travel restrictions, I found myself (visit) Innsbruck, the capital city of the state of Tyrol in Western Austria.

The destination within snow-capped mountains is perfect for a short break. Even the approach Innsbruck Airport by air is a breathtaking sight as the plane (gentle) moves between the mountains on its journey to the runway.

The city is like an artistic (compose) of modern architecture and historic buildings serving both as a university town and a tourist center. Weaving my way through cobbled streets and well-designed buildings, I was impressed by this stunning city was the Imperial capital 500 years ago, when the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I lived here, and it still lives up to (it) royal connections today with the unique architecture.

I wandered round this small city, (amaze) at the dramatic backdrop of the Nordkette mountain which offers skiing and hiking near the downtown. The Goldenes Dachl, significant landmark in Innsbruck with its 2,657 golden copper tiles(瓦片)that shine in the sunlight, took my breath away.

Innsbruck (steal) my heart with the stunning architecture, majestic mountains and friendly people on this tour. I couldn't wait to return (explore) more of this delightful European city.

    People came to the area that's now New Mexico more than 12,000 years ago. Experts think they migrated from is now Russia across a land bridge(call) the Bering Strait during the last Ice Age. Thousands of years (late), native American tribes including the Apache, Zuni, Navajo and Pueblos lived on the land.

    In 1540, a Spanish(explore), Francisco Vazquez de Coronado, came to the area in search of cities made of gold were rumored (谣传) to exist in the America. He didn't discover treasure, but over the next century the Spanish colonized the land. Then in 1821, Mexico declared its independenceSpain, and the area became part of Mexico. But after the United States won the Mexican- American War in 1848, New Mexico became an American territory. In 1912, it(declare) the 47th state.

    When the Spanish set out to explore the region, they hoped to find land as(value)as what they had found earlier in Mexico. So they(name) the area Nueva Mexico. ("Nueva" means "new" in Spanish.) As for the word" Mexico", some experts think it's a version of a name that the Aztecs (a cultural group from Mexico) had for one of their gods.

    The state has beautiful scenery from (mountain) to forests and deserts. This earns it the nickname the Land of Enchantment.
