Like all other great musicians, Martin Agee has his listeners from countries around the world.1different from them, he has some listeners that are dogs.

2 a violinist and dog lover, Martin enjoys playing the violin for people and walking his dog Melody. However, he 3 thought he would one day play for dogs.

Several years ago, Melody died. To4 the loss of Melody, Martin came up with an idea: he'd like to give his 5 to some poor dogs in an animal shelter (收容所).

Martin learned that the shelter once had a 6 programme for dogs. It asked people to read a book or magazine for them." How about being a volunteer and playing the 7 for dogs here?" he soon made up his mind.

Many homeless dogs that have nowhere to stay are brought to the shelter. Some of them are badly hurt as they are 8 by kids with big stones (石头). After the bad 9, they are afraid of humans. They always 10 themselves behind doors when someone visits them.

Martin clearly remembers one dog in the shelter. At first, the dog barked (吠叫) loudly at him and it looked really 11, But when Martin took out his violin and played a piece of music of Beethoven, it quickly 12 and became quiet." I know it must like the13 I played, Martin said.

In Martin's eyes, spending time with dogs here can let him14 the happy time he spent with Melody. According to him, one of the most important things about being a volunteer is to help dogs here learn how to15 again. "After all, dogs are humans' best friends," he says.

Late in April, a photo show was held in our school. It lasted a week and was a great (成功)! All the photos were (拍) by the students themselves. (大部分) of them were colour photos, but some were black and white ones, presenting our school life, the beauty of (大自然), festival activities and so on. All the works of art were on show in the reading room on the (第二) floor. Every day a large (数量) of students went to enjoy them, and they were (惊奇的) to find the photos were so (精彩的) that some teachers were also present. Those whose photos were (选中) the best were given different (奖项). In short, this photo show really made our life more colourful.

On the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown. Everything about the school seemed so difficult. When I got home, my parents said," You're nervous and that's okay. Everyone is afraid of high school." I denied it. I wanted to be strong, so I refused to let anyone know about my fear, even my closest friends.

On the first day, I was late for every class and was always lost. The school seemed like a puzzle that I couldn't figure out. Was this how the whole year was going to be? I didn't think I could deal with this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it! The schoolmates seemed to regard me as a fool, and they were probably right.

Despite my fears, after the first week I finally had my schedule figured out. Except for falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad. It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging.

Later, I was elected vice monitor of my class, which wasn't much of a victory since only three people ran for the four positions.

It is normal to be scared of a new school. Take a deep breath and relax. High school is something that any student can overcome. Make sure you take part in some out-of-class activities because you'll find it easier to make friends. Try to do your best, even if it isn't straight A's.

Most important of all, be who you are, whether you're a "fool", an athlete, or a lower grader. Don't try to pretend to be someone you re not. Now you know the true secrets to high school.

Twelve years ago, Steve Axford left his job, sold his house and moved to the Big Scrub, the largest lowland subtropical (亚热带的) rainforest in Australia. He bought a house near the rainforest with about 30, 000 square meters of land.

Steve was 56 years old at that time and he wasn't ready to fully stop working. He started to plant trees around the house. When he worked on the deep volcanic clay soils (火山黏土), he noticed some strange lives- they are neither plants nor animals. They are fungi (真菌), a kind of life form that lies between life and death. They break lifeless bodies into simpler forms and feed other members of natural communities.

Steve was interested in them and picked up his camera and started shooting." There are around 4 million kinds of fungi on Earth. They play roles in the life cycles of most plants and animals, but we know almost nothing about them," said Steve. Over the years, hundreds of fungi have crossed into his artworks. They offer us a chance to look into the world that we depend on but don't pay much attention to. The beauty and scientific value of Steve's fungi photography were reported by BBC's Planet Earth II and got the attention of the public as well as some fungi

experts (专家). Steve wants to photograph and record fungi around the world. Also, he shares the science behind fungi and his experience at photographing in international universities and fungi academies (学院). At the invitation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Steve photographed the fungi in China's remaining tropical rainforest in Yunnan. The photos are included in a local field guide of fungi.

"I think after some years I might be bored with fungi finally," Steve said." But now when I meet with any fungi in good condition, I lose my mind all over again."

On a hot African morning, Leila was lying on her stomach and an elephant was walking towards her. Leila waited. Then she pushed the button on her camera." And I got my best photo of an elephant ever, by lying under my car," Leila explained. "I wanted to get close to the elephants, but of course this was dangerous. They had their babies with them. So every morning I used to park my car in the open near the path. They used to take the same path every morning when they left the water hole. After a week, they were used to seeing my car. So the next morning, I lay under it and got my photo!'

Many of the best wildlife photos come from good planning. In Africa, photographers set up their hides( 隐蔽处) near water holes. They also set up hides near forest paths, as animals use the same paths every night. For bird watching, many lakes have hides. Inside the hides, bird watchers can watch all day in the shade out of the wind and rain.

Good wildlife photos are needed for books, postcards, magazines and newspapers. But a success rate of 1 in 20 is good.

My Favourite Photo

Two weeks before Christmas vacation, I was (exciting). I asked Dad, "Where are we going this year?

"Dr Kelly has a special trip for (we) to Mexico.' And we'll go with same people that went to Laredo last year. We head out the day after Christmas and stay for four days," Dad said, "This is the coolest trip, Dad. I get to spend time you and my friends."

The week before Christmas, we started (prepare). December in Mexico is very cold, people need to wear warm clothes and shoes. Dad and Dr Kelly took cooking very (serious), so we went to a store to buy enough food.

Soon, we were on the road to the border (边境) town of Eagle Pass. Three (hour) later we arrived at the Rio Grande River. Here we could see Mexico across the river.

We went across the bridge waited in line at the checkpoint (关卡). Then we finally left America and started the adventure. It was the first time I had seen firewood (柴火)that was (use) for cooking and heating. In the next few days, I had the best time with my family and friends.

Whether it's a new baby or the cute little dog next door, there's a good chance that your dog doesn't want to share your love with anyone else. Some people may think that jealousy (嫉妒) is a human-only feeling. But have you ever played with another dog around your dog or petted (抚摸) a different dog when you're taking a walk? Many dogs don't like it when they're not the centre of their owners' attention.

A few years ago, researchers at the University of California, San Diego, found that dogs showed jealous actions when their owners showed love toward another dog. For the study, researchers watched videos of interactions (互动) between 36 owners and their dogs in their homes. They had the owners pay no attention to their dogs but play with a robotic dog, which was treated as a real dog. Owners petted it and talked to it sweetly.

About 62%of the dogs were likely to touch or push their owners when they were interacting with the robotic dog. About one third of the dogs tried to get between the owner and the robotic animal and some even barked at the "other dog".

"Our study suggests that dogs not only show jealous actions but also try to break up the relationship between the owner and a seeming competitor,' "said Professor

Therefore, your dog might act out when he's trying to get your attention and may be experiencing feelings of jealousy. For example, be may draw your attention by licking (舔) you, or he may suddenly run into the bathroom to get attention or even to show displeasure. So if you have more than one pet, be sure to give them the same attention so that one pet doesn't feel forgotten.
