Tiaohua Festival is a main festival of the Miao people in Anshun City in Guizhou Province, China. In 2008, it was included into the second group of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. It is usually celebrated in the first lunar (农历的)month every year.

To decide the exact dates of the festival, organizers(组织者)have to think about many things, like lucky animal days ( e. g. the tiger and dragon are powerful, but snake and pig days need to be avoided at all costs) and lucky numbers (e. g. "8"means wealth but"4"meansdeath). Organizers also need to make sure the dates don't fall on the festival days of other communities (社区). In this way , people from nearby villages can take part in the festival.

Singing and dancing are the main activities of Tiaohua Festival. During the festival,  the Miao people wear their traditional clothes and silver accessories (配饰). The most important part of the festival is the chance for young people to meet possible marriage partners——Men play a musical instrument and women dance to the music in the flower area. If a man plays well, listeners will cheer for him and he can win a woman's admiration. Then they may get married if everything goes well. Other activities include competitions of climbing a flower-decorated pole(杆)and wushu.

Each year, Tiaohua Festival attracts international tourists from all over the world." We're really surprised by the local culture and the welcoming people," a foreigner named Charlie said excitedly.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12 to remember Florence Nightingale's birth. Florence's parents were on holiday in Italy at the time, in a beautiful city1Florence, so they 2their daughter after the city. 3Florence's time, people did not know that disease was caused by germs (病菌), and that germs grew best in 4conditions. In 1854 the Crimean War 8—England, France and Turkey were fighting against Russia. The government asked Florence to take a group of nurses out to Crimea to9 the wounded at Scutari Hospital.

At first, the doctors at Scutari Hospital did not want the nurses to go near the 10 soldiers. So the women cleaned the hospital11 Soon, the doctors asked Florence and her nurses to help12the men. Each evening Florence made her rounds of the hospital13a lamp in her hand. She cared for the soldiers and made them feel better. Back in England, people heard about" The Lady with Lamp". She became very 14.

After the war, she kept on working, 15hospitals, opening training schools, and writing books. Thanks to Florence Nightingale, nurses are now properly trained to care for us all.

Do you love a tomato fight? Come to Spain and enjoy its famous tomato festival, La Tomatina. The Spanish love to eat tomatoes. Tomato sauce is served on the side with fried eggs, chicken, meat and omelets (煎蛋卷) at most Spanish dinner tables.

There was a parade in Bunol on the last Wednesday of August of 1945 when a fight broke out between some young men. Taking advantage of a nearby fruit and vegetable stall (货摊), they threw tomatoes at each other. The following year the young people brought tomatoes with them to the parade and started a tomato fight again. Each year the fight continued until the early 1950s. The holiday was banned in the Spanish State period under Francisco Franco for having no religious significance, but returned in the 1970s after his death. In fact, since 198othe city government has provided the tomatoes!

Today La Tomatina is celebrated on the last Wednesday in August in the small town of Bunol in eastern Spain. The festival starts at 11 : 00 am with the sound of a cannon (大炮）shot being fired and ends one hour later. Last year 40, 0o0 people took part in throwing over 100tons of tomatoes in the streets and this year even more are expected.

During the tomato fight, you must not bring bottles or other types of objects which could cause an accident. You must not tear or throw T-shirts. The tomatoes must be squashed(压烂) before being thrown to avoid hurting people. You must be careful of any lorry (truck or van). When you hear the second shot, you must stop throwing tomatoes.

When the fight is over, everyone then sets off to the river to clear up. Sounds like fun!
