  • 1.  Passage B

Twelve Dancing Princesses is a German fair y tale. It's included in the Children's and Household Tales(《格林童话》) by the Brothers Grimm.

Tramper could feel the st ony road through the holes in shoes. He saw a newspaper on the road, picked it up and sat down to cover the holes in his shoes with the paper. A weak old lady was looking at him.

"You think you have shoe trouble!"she said. "The king has 12 girls and all of them have holes in their slippers!"

The old lady had no shoes on her feet, and her feet were purple from cold. Tramper felt sorry for her, so he gave her his shoes. To thank him, she gave Tramper her dirty cloak(斗篷). As she walked away down the road, she called, "Stay awake. No drinking. Taste no cup. "

"A strange way to say goodbye, "thought Tramper.

It rained. Tramper put on the cloak and tried to read what was left of the wet newspaper. It was said:

    KING'S NOTICE

WANTED: Answer to the mystery of the worn slippers.

REWARD:Married to one of the princesses

"Why not?" thought Tramper. "I believe I can solve the mystery. "And, when he looked down, his feet were gone. His legs and body had gone, too. He was invisible. "The cloak is magic!"he said.

The king's daughters were a mystery. Each night they took off their silk slippers and went to bed. But each morning their silk slippers were full of holes, and the girls were tired out.

How could it happen? The girls' bedroom door was locked, so they could not get out. How could it go on? The king was spending all his money on slippers! (To be continued…)

  • 1.  Passage A

This is a light-hearted book filled with colorful pictures. The book mainly tells that all feelings are OK, which is important for children to understand. This is a great introduction to talking about feelings. The funny pictures and simple words are perfect for kids.

This book is more likely to catch boys' attention, although girls may enjoy it, too. The basic message is that everyone has feelings. The pictures in this book are of superheroes that look disappointed, sad, embarrassed and so on. The final page is beautiful: A dad and his little son are reading together. They're tough guys"who love each other very much".

This book invites children to imagine that everyone carries a bucket filled with good feelings. We can help fill people's buckets by doing kind things. One of the many good things about the book is that it talks about the fact that we should fill our own buckets by taking care of ourselves. It also talks about the fact that doing nice things for people makes us feel happy and pleased.

The three books can help you teach your children about their feelings and how to manage them. As a school teacher, I've used them to teach my students about different feelings. Helping children learn to express and manage their feelings can lead to an increase in confidence.

    1. (1) According to The Feelings Book, children should know that____.
    2. (2) ____may be more interested in Tough Guys.
    3. (3) What can we learn from Fill a Bucket?
  • 1.  Passage D

Shu Lin's Grandpa is a children's picture book. The book illustrated (加插图于) by British-Chinese artist Yu Rong was shown at the London Book Fair, one of the world's biggest publishing trade fairs. It caused a heated discussion about how to better tell Chinese stories to international readers.

The book tells a story about Shu Lin, a Chinese girl who moves abroad with her family. Shu Lin doesn't speak English very well and she finds it hard in her new school in Britain, but when her grandpa comes to school and shows the class his amazing Chinese paintings, everything changes!

In the book, Yu Rong uses paper cutting, ink paintings(水墨画) and other Chinese elements to create a new painting style that is both classical and modern. Yu Rong's first picture books have been published in Britain, America, Italy, Japan, France and other countries. Shu Lin's Grandpa published in Chinese by Dandelion Children's Bookstore and in English by Otter-Barry Books, was on the list of the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2022, which is an important children's book award in Britain.

Nowadays, many people across the world are looking forward to    ▲     . "The rich paintings about the celebration of Chinese culture make readers think deeply. After reading, I want to visit China to learn about its culture, especially to explore the traditional ink painting, "said Marianne Simon, a student at Kingston University.

"We try to help international young readers discover more about Chinese children's books, "said the prize-winning translator(译员) Helen Wang. "As we know, translators always play a leading role in bringing more Chinese books to international readers. More and more young translators are bringing more Chinese books to international readers and helping them to better understand China. "
