Teenager Jake Denham was skiing with his family in the US when he fell over and lost one of his skis. His family didn't know that he had a problem. They kept on skiing. When they got to the foot of the mountain, there was no sign of Jake. 

Jake couldn't find his ski anywhere. In the end, he decided to take off the other ski and walk down the mountain. But he couldn't work out the right way to go. 

It was now getting dark and there was a long way away from any place of safety. He knew that he might die that night in the cold temperatures. But Jake kept calm. At home, Jake watched a lot of programs about living in difficult situations. He remembered the advice from these programs and knew that he should build a hole in the snow. He made a hole and pointed it up the hill so the wind couldn't blow into it. Outside his hole, the temperature fell to a dangerous —15 ℃ that night, but inside it Jake was safe from the cold. 

But he had to get down the mountain. The TV programs always said, "If you are lost, you should find someone else's tracks through the snow and follow them. ""I wanted to live my life, "remembered Jake. "So I got up and I found some ski tracks and I followed those. " He walked and walked and finally he saw lights. Nine hours after he lost his ski, he found a team of workers who came to save him. He was safe!

His mom was very happy when she heard the news. Amazingly, Jake didn't even have to go to hospital. He got through the terrible experience without any injuries. 

So, the next time someone says that watching TV is a waste of time, 

think of Jake. Sometimes TV can save your life!

Rock climbing did not become a sport until the late 1900s. But now it has become a popular outdoor activity. While rock climbing may still be necessary for mountain climbing, most people just climb low hills for fun.

Nevado del Ruiz is a mountain in Colombia. It is about 5, 321 meters high and it is popular with climbers. It is beautiful, but it is1 , too. The weather can change2 on the mountain. 

One minute it is sunny, and the next minute it is cloudy. One minute it is warm, and the next minute it is3 . On a sunny morning in June, Leonardo Diaz began climbing Nevado del Ruiz with some friends. On the second day of their climb, there was a snowstorm. It was difficult to walk in the4 , and it was difficult to see. The climbers decided to5 and walk down the mountain. Leonardo stopped for a(n)6 to get something out of his backpack. When he looked 7 , his friends were gone. He couldn't see them or their footprints in the snow. "Wait!"Leonardo shouted. But his friends couldn't hear8 in the snowstorm.

All day Leonardo continued going downhill alone. That night he put up his tent, crawled inside, and slept. He was in big9 when he woke up the next morning. His clothes were not warm enough, so he was very cold. He was hungry, too,  10  he had no food left. He decided to11 for help. He opened his backpa ck and took out his cellphone. It didn't work. Leonardo had no more prepaid minutes(预付话费) on his phone. 

All morning Leonardo stayed in his tent and the cellphone didn't work. He began to think, "Maybe I'll 12 on this mountain. " Then his cellphone13 . "Hello?" he answered. "Good afternoon, " a woman said. "I'm calling from Bell South Phone Company. You have no minutes left on your cellphone. Would you like to buy more minutes?""Yes, but not now!" Leonardo said. "I need help. I'm14 on a mountain. "

"Stay where you are, "the woman said. "I'll15 help. " Late that night, a rescue team arrived and helped Leonardo go downhill. Leonardo says he will probably try again to climb Nevado del Ruiz. But the next time, he will bring plenty of warm clothes and plenty of food. He will also bring a cellphone with plenty of prepaid minutes.

Psychology tells us that many people hate to take risks. But it is good for us to take risks, especially when the risk is to achieve a desired result. In that way, we will become stronger and braver. 

Our human nature should be to take risks, but some people just sit and wish they didn't have the fear to move on. This is because they failed a few times in their lives. Please step out and don't let the past hold you back from living life to the fullest. Move forward and move on!

In studying the psychology of taking risks, we find that human nature provides us with the desire to experiment and take chances. 

Risk taking is a great advantage that allowed our ancestors to become stronger and stronger day by day. By taking risks they fought off enemies and discovered new territories(领土). This attitude has become a part of our modern culture. Riding a roller coaster is a common risk-taking

activity. Even the average person seems to enjoy the risk although they have the understanding that it is dangerous. This psychological and biological connection creates an interesting connection between what is unsafe and what humans enjoy. 

Getting in a car each day is a risk. Getting out of bed is a risk, too. We need to take risks so that we can complete many things. 

Astronauts take risks when they get inside a rocket. However, the things they ac hieve are great. Businessmen take a risk when they buy parts of a company. But without doing that, they could not make more money. 

We need to take risks so that we can gain something. It is impossible to move forward in life, earn money, enjoy a relationship, play a sport, or do anything else without taking a risk. It is all part of the game. It's one of the most important parts of life.

Mother's Day is celebrated in the US. It is also a holiday in some other countries. It is on the second Sunday in May. It is a day to thank mothers. 1that day mothers usually 2 flowers and cards. On the cards, children will write "Thanks, Mum", "To the best mother 3", "Best 4 for Mother's Day" and so on.

    Where does the idea for the holiday 5? We should thank Miss Anna Jarvis. She brought up the idea of having such a day. She lived in West Virginia. Her mother 6 on May 9, 1905.

 She had a deep love to her mother. She 7 letters to many famous people. In her letters, she asked them to decide a day for 8 mothers. Then Mother's Day was made on the second Sunday in May by the US in 1913.

On Mother's Day, children give presents to their mothers, 9 the whole family go out and try to do 10 for their mothers.

As everybody knows, tourism (旅游业) plays an important part in the development of a country, the life of people and so on. It can open our eyes to the outside world, bring us more knowledge, and make us feel good. However, tourism can also lead to pollution and many other problems to places of interest (名胜古迹).

Luckily, "Green Tourism" is now being promoted and developed around the world. As time goes by, people will begin to realize the importance of these places of interest. "Green Tourism" teaches a person to love nature more and to protect it by enjoying its beautiful scenery (风景) and learning more about it. "Green Tourism" is the best kind of tourism as its purpose (目的) is to let people enjoy natural environments including wild plants and animals, and of course the cultures of many places.

Compared with traditional tourism, "Green Tourism" is to learn more about nature and people. Traditionally, people travel around the world to enjoy themselves and pass time pleasantly. But "Green Tourism" are different. The tourists travel because they fall in love with the beauty of the protected areas. They want to make good use of natural resources (资源) but not use them up. For example, they study the animals, the culture and the customs (风俗) or a place so that they can learn more about the history and value (价值) of the area.

 In short, "Green Tourism" has a purpose and a plan, but not to pollute our places of interest.
