Taking pictures of an empty plate is becoming popular in the canteens(食堂)at Shenzhen University(SZU), a report by Shenzhen Economic Daily showed.

According to the Daily, Tencent is now working with SZU to introduce AI technology to a campaign on WeChat to encourage "clear your plate". The campaign is to reduce food waste and encourage students to save food.

After finishing a meal, students can take photos of their plates and send them to the AI system. Once their photos are accepted, students can get a reward. Tencent's AI Lab provides technological support for the campaign. It takes only 40 milliseconds for the system to check a photo.

"By using AI technology to encourage the 'clear your plate' campaign, our university can have a better understanding of students — main role in the campaign so as to carry out a rewarding system for keeping students interested in it," said Xu Xiaoling from SZU's student department.

  • 1. (2022九上·南山期中) 以下是一则短文。请阅读短文,并从下列方框里的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。

    A. Use word parts.

    B. Look at the words.

    C. It might sound like a word you know.

    D. You can find the word in a dictionary.

    E. Following some easy steps can help you.

    F. If the word shelter doesn't look familiar. look at the words around it.

You've been learning words since you were a tiny baby. At first, you learned them only by hearing other people talk. Now that you're a reader, you have another way to learn words. What should you do when you come to a word and you think you don't know what it means? .

    Say it

First sound it out. Then say it to yourself. . Sometimes you know a word in your head but you don't know what it looks like in print. So if you match up what you know and what you read — you have the word!

    Use context

If this doesn't work, take the next step: look at the context — the other words and sentences around it. Read this sentence: When it rained, the dog looked for shelter in the doorway. . Rain and in the doorway might give you helpful information.

If the context doesn't help, look at the parts of the word. Does it have any parts you know? These can help you understand what it means. If you don't know the meaning of miner, try looking at parts of the word. You might know that a mine is a place underground where people get coal and other valuable things. A lot of times, -er at the end of a word means "a person who does something". So a miner might be someone who works in a mine.

    Look it up

If the three steps above don't work, you can look it up.  — either a book or online.

Nobody knows the meaning of every word, but good readers know how to understand words they don't know.

    Dear Mr. Smith,

I am a boy from a junior high school. My friends are always taken to eat out in restaurants such as McDonald's and KFC by their parents. They always talk about how delicious the food is. I feel bad because I haven't eaten out once. My family is not very rich and I am out of place among them. I am afraid that my friends will not want to make friends with me.

    Tom

    Dear Tom,

In the world, there are always many people who live better than us. For example, they have nicer houses or better jobs. Even in your case, they eat out more often than you. It's very common that we always want what we don't have, but instead, to appreciate (感激) what we have now is the most important for us.

In fact, the fast food in McDonald's or KFC is harmful to people's bodies. It will make you become fat. A fat student may take a high risk of some diseases. On the other hand, eating at home is quite good for your growth. According to research, the one who often eats at home can get more happiness than the one who often eats out.

Besides, a true friend makes friends with you just because of who you are. He doesn't care about whether you are rich or not. Remember, if someone cuts off the friendship between you two for your family, he will not be your real friend. And it is wise of you to give up this kind of friendship.

    Mr. Smith

    1. (1) What is Tom's problem?
    2. (2) How does Mr. Smith think of the boy's problem?
