How much sleep do we need?The answers are different. Some people need only three hours of sleep a night. Others need ten hours of sleep a night. Most Americans sleep about seven to eight hours a night. After the age of fifty, the sleeping time may go down to 6. 5 hours a night. 

Most people have a bad night when they can't have a good sleep. The name of this problem is called insomnia. About 30%people in America have a problem with sleep. This is not a new problem. Many great people in history had insomnia. Some of these people had special ideas to sleep well. Benjamin Franklin had four beds. He moved from one to another to sleep. King Louis XIV of France had 413 beds and wanted to have a good sleep in one of them. Mark Twain, the great

Make escape plans. You should know all the ways out of the house. 

If there is a fire, everyone follows the plan to get out. 

Buy fire extinguishers(灭火器) . Everyone in the family should know how to use them. If you don't know that, just read the instructions or ask others for help. 

Practice for a fire at home now because it can teach children about fire safety. Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules:

■Don't open a hot door. The air outside will come into the house if you open the door. Then the fire can grow more quickly. 

■Stay close to the floor(地板). Smoke can be more dangerous than fire. The best air is near the floor because the smoke goes up. 

What will you do if your hair or clothes are on fire?First, stop. Don't run. The fire will be faster if you run. Drop!Sleep on the floor.
