How much sleep do we need?The answers are different. Some people need only three hours of sleep a night. Others need ten hours of sleep a night. Most Americans sleep about seven to eight hours a night. After the age of fifty, the sleeping time may go down to 6. 5 hours a night. 

Most people have a bad night when they can't have a good sleep. The name of this problem is called insomnia. About 30%people in America have a problem with sleep. This is not a new problem. Many great people in history had insomnia. Some of these people had special ideas to sleep well. Benjamin Franklin had four beds. He moved from one to another to sleep. King Louis XIV of France had 413 beds and wanted to have a good sleep in one of them. Mark Twain, the great

writer, had a different way. He lay(躺)on his side across the end of his bed. 

Penny lives next to my house. She is not a beautiful girl. She is short and a little heavy. She has short hair and often wears a pair of glasses. 

Penny is quiet and never speaks too much to others. Sometimes I can meet her near my home when I go to school or get back home. But she only says"hello"to me and then goes away quickly.

One day after dinner, I take a walk in the neighborhood with my dog Toby. I enjoy watching Toby running around. But on my way home, Toby is lost. I'm very sad and don't know what to do. At this time, I meet Penny and tell her what happens(发生) . Then she asks me to describe what Toby looks like and helps me look for Toby everywhere. In the end, we are happy to find Toby under a tree. 

From then on, I change    my way to tell if a girl is beautiful or not. Penny and I are good friends now, and I think she is very beautiful. 

A fire(火灾)often happens in winter because it's dry and windy at that time of a year. People all know the dangers of fires. It's useful for a family to learn how to escape(逃脱)from a fire. Here are some tips:

Put a smoke alarm(烟雾警报器)in the house. Smoke from a fire makes the alarm go off. The sound tells everyone to leave the house quickly. 

Make escape plans. You should know all the ways out of the house. 

If there is a fire, everyone follows the plan to get out. 

Buy fire extinguishers(灭火器) . Everyone in the family should know how to use them. If you don't know that, just read the instructions or ask others for help. 

Practice for a fire at home now because it can teach children about fire safety. Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules:

■Don't open a hot door. The air outside will come into the house if you open the door. Then the fire can grow more quickly. 

■Stay close to the floor(地板). Smoke can be more dangerous than fire. The best air is near the floor because the smoke goes up. 

What will you do if your hair or clothes are on fire?First, stop. Don't run. The fire will be faster if you run. Drop!Sleep on the floor. 

Then, roll!Turning over and over will make the fire go out.
