The middle school days provide me with enough time to read some fantastic stories. Among them the most unforgettable one is The Cop and the Anthem.
Flow like the river of change
Little stream ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert. "I went through so many difficulties. I should have no problem crossing the desert," she thought. As she started, she found herself slowly disappearing into the sand. After many tries, she still failed. "Maybe I can't reach the ocean," she said sadly to herself.
At this time, a deep voice said, "If a breeze(微风)can cross the desert, so can a river." It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, "That's because a breeze can fly, but I cannot."
"That's because you can't give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发)into the breeze, and it can take you across," said the desert. "Give up what I am now? No! No!" The little stream could not accept this idea.
"The breeze can carry the vapor(蒸汽)across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again," said the desert. "And whether you're a river or vapor, your nature never changes." Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze. It carried her to the next stage of her life.
The course of our lives is like the experience of the little stream. If you want to go through difficulties in your life to head for success, you should also change the way you are.
A poor young man went to Paris, expecting that his father's friend could help him find a business for living.
"Are you g at maths?" his father's friend asked him. The young man s his head. "How is your history? How about your law?" The young man lowered his head sadly.
His father's friend asked again and again, but the young man could only shake his head. He himself couldn't find out any advantages.
"Then write down your address first." The young man wrote his address and turned to leave, but he was stopped by his father's friend. "Your name is written very beautifully, which is your advantage. You shouldn't satisfy yourself with finding a j for living."
Many years later, the young man wrote the classical works that were well-known in the world. He was Alexandre Dumas Pere (大仲马, a f French writer of the 18th century.
There are many ordinary persons in the world who all have many small advantages, but they can't find t. In fact, there is a gold mine in every ordinary life. If you're willing to dig, you will dig out treasures that surprise yourself.

A blind boy sat on thesteps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held a sign which said, "I amblind, please1me."
There were only a few coinsin the2.
A man was walking by. Hetook a few coins from his wallet and dropped them into the hat.He then took thesign, turned it around and3some words on it. He put the sign back sothat everyone who walked by could see the new4.
Soon the hat began to fillup. A lot more people were 5money to the blind boy.
That afternoon the manwho had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized(认出) his footstepsand asked, "Were you the one who changed6signthis morning? What did you write?" The man said, "I only wrote the truth.I said what you said, but in a different way." What he had written was"Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it".
Both signs told peoplethe boy was7.But the first sign simply told the peopleto help by putting some8 inthe hat. The second sign told people they were able to enjoy the beauty of the day,but the boy could not enjoy it because he was blind.
There are 9 two lessons we can learn from this simple story. The first is: Be thankful for what you have.
Somebody else has less.Try your best to help those who need your help. The second is: Be creative. Think10.There is always a better way.
As a kid, I walked to the library several times a week and stayed up late reading. I checked out so many books and returned them so quickly the librarian once snapped, "Don't take home so many books if you're not going to read them all."
"But I did read them all," I said.
In college, when I created my online dating(约会)profile, in the " favorite books" section I put One Hundred Years of Solitude, A Moveable Feast, White Fang and so on. But I realized I hadn't read most of those titles for two years.
David was my first online date. David read about a book or two a week. When we compared libraries, we had only four titles in common.
On our seventh date, David and I visited the library.
"I have a game," he said, taking out two pens and Post-its(便利贴). Let's find books we've read and leave reviews in them for the next person. "
We stayed there for an hour.
Before leaving, I said, "I will tell you something. I've only read one book this year. "
"But you like books, "he said. "You like bookstores. You like libraries. Read a book!"
Back home, David' s charge to "read a book" echoed in my head. I bought books whenever I got the chance, but I hardly read them. They sat on every surface until my house appeared to wear books the way one wears clothes.
I picked up one. Whenever I wanted to give up on it, I thought of David .
"How's your day?" David texted.
"Good. A little tired, "I replied. "I stayed up late and finished my book. "The last time I'd pulled an all-nighter to read, I was 12 and the book was Little Women.
David suggested we visit the library again. He pulled a book from the shelf, dropped to one knee, and opened it. Inside, his Post-it read: "Karla, it has always been you. Will you marry me? "
His proposal had rested in the book for over a year.
a. She had a game with David.
b. She created her online dating profile.
c. She was shown the Post-it written to her.
d. She told David she only read one book that year.
e. She found they had only four titles in common.
Many of you may think it is a terrible thing to study history. Youmay often wonder why we students should study something that has nothing to do withour own lives. If you think that way, I should say you are far from the truth.
In fact, if we study history, we can learn quite a lot about personalstories and events (事件)of peoplejust like us. The people who came before us helped build and develop the countrywe are living in. Their ideas often solved many of our problems and troubles. Studyingthe past helps us to understand what our ancestors'(祖先)liveswere like. And it also helps us to see how their experiences have shaped our ownlife.
To be honest, ▲ . Some of what we study in history helpsus understand the mistakes of the past. And these mistakes will help people notto do the same wrong things. People often learn from the past to have a better future.
Whether we like the subject of history or not, we must understand theimportance of the events and the people who came before us. Our ancestors' decisionshave influenced our own life. Similarly, the decisions of our own generation(一代人)will finally influence those who come after us.In this only way, the world is truly connected.
History is not just a study of the past. History is the study of people, places, and events that can influence the future.
Now do you still think studying history is a sad thing? Or do you haveany doubt about learning history? If you have any question, just feel free to ask.
