— The blue one.
In a midsummer, Tom went on an outdoor trip with a (medicine) team from Britain. The purpose of the trip is to find out (who) ancestors the people in a temple were. First, they took a truck to the right position. Then they had a picnic. At night they were so sleepy, they tried to save energy. (prevent) cold, they wore coats instead of suits.
Just then, they heard a lot of noise, and they saw a wolf (run) after some rabbits. Then they saw a pink circle moving towards the wolf. After a short period, the wolf, rabbits and the circle disappeared. “There wasn't (somebody) else. The circle must be alien landing there. It's a great honor for us!” Tom said." Yes. I feel the trip is very valuable, though a little uneasy. These happenings must (express) more fully now. Wed better call the policemen," a friend added.
Later Tom received a call from a historian who was working in a laboratory. He explained the mystery. There wasn't an alien at all. It was rabbits attacking their enemy, the wolf. The circle was a rabbit (lead)and rabbits celebrating their victory. the same time, it was the wolfs burial for sure.
Have you ever been to any European cities? There are many (beauty) old buildings there. You can see some strange stone creatures on the top of these buildings. They are called gargoyles(滴水嘴). Gargoyles not only provide interesting decorations(装饰)for buildings, serve an important purpose. They can direct water away from the sides of buildings.
But how do gargoyles prevent rainwater from running down stone walls? Many gargoyles have troughs(槽)that were cut into their backs (catch)water. Then the water is directed out of the open mouth of the stone creature. Gargoyles (usual) have a long shape. Their length(长度) decides how far from the building's walls the rainwater is directed.
The word " gargoyle "comes the French word “gargouille”. It means“ throat”. Some people believe that gargoyles can protect (they) against bad spirits. Gargoyles have been used for hundreds of years. Ancient Egyptians often created gargoyles in the shape of lion's head. Other popular animal gargoyles were dogs, (wolf), snakes and monkeys.
Since modern drainpipes(排水管) were developed in the eighteenth century, gargoyles (become) less common. Sometimes buildings will still (build)with gargoyles. However, they are mainly used for decorations.
