It was two months before Christmas when nine-year-old Rose told her father and me that she wanted a new bike. Her Snow White bike was just too old to ride, and it needed repairing as well.

As Christmas came closer, her dream for a bike seemed to disappear, for she didn't mention it again. We were busy buying some beautiful storybooks, a doll house, a holiday dress and toys.

Then much to our surprise, on the evening of December 24, she said she terribly wanted a bike more than anything else.

Then we didn't know what to do. It was just too late for us to make her dream come true. So there was no time to buy the "right bike" for our little girl. Thinking that we were parents who would make their child unhappy, we tried to deal with the problem.

  Many office buildings now turn off their lights at night. This helps reduce the number of birds that fly into buildings and it also helps save energy.

Some scientists also believe trees help more than just the air. Trees keep our bodies healthy as well. People in hospitals seem to do better when they can see trees from their rooms. People with trees near their homes usually take more exercise. 

Scientists have also studied the healthy effects (效果) of trees on our minds. One effect of trees seems to be that they make people feel relaxed. Scientists did some research on city people in an area with few trees. After trees were planted on the street, people walked slower when going home. They said the area was much nicer.

    You are so tired at night, but you can't sleep. Here are some good ideas.

First, you should be in a quiet room. That's important. You should put your feet in some warm water before you go to bed, and that's a traditional way. You should have a glass of milk. It's good for sleeping. You should think you are in a beautiful place. It's very quiet here, and there are many trees and you walk slowly. That sounds like a good idea. It can help you sleep soon.

    Sleeping is important to our health. Don't be worried. Go to bed early, eat more vegetables and do some exercise. And everyone will have a good sleep at night.
