Nowadays young people pay too much attention to body images. For example, most of my classmates often talk about how thin they are and how to lose weight.

According to reports, the number one wish for girls aged from 11 to 17 is to be thinner. Even girls as young as five are afraid of becoming fat. What made girls pay much attention to their body images? The media(媒体)! Beauty is stressed on television, in movies, and in magazines. One in three articles in magazines pay attention to body images, and 50 of the magazines show pictures of thin, beautiful models.

Reports about adult women are just as terrible. Every day, about 50% of American women are on a diet(节食). 34% of women say they'd think about cosmetic surgery(整容手术) to make them become thinner.

If the media would stop encouraging Americans to have a perfect image, girls and boys could be much happier. There would be no more crying about not fitting into a pair of size zero jeans. People could pay more attention to being healthy and happy.

Helping others makes people feel good and happy. Here are some ideas for you on how to help others through volunteering.

When people get older, it becomes harder to do many things, from walking to the store to doing the housework. Old people living alone can also feel lonely. As a volunteer, you can do a lot to help the old in your neighborhood. You could visit them and help them with their housework.

Many people with disabilities need help. You could volunteer to read books to the blind or deliver something for people who can't get around too well.

There are lots of volunteer jobs to do in hospitals and health care centers. As a volunteer, you can make the bed, deliver flowers and gifts, help serve meals, and do lots of other important jobs.

Some families don't have enough money to buy food and clothes for their kids. Some people don't have place to live at all. To help these people as a volunteer, you can give clothes, food or money to them, or raise money for a charity.

Many people think that the dinosaurs were the biggest animals that ever lived. They are wrong. The world's biggest animal is still  (live), and it lives in the sea. It is called the Blue Whale. Blue Whales can be as long as 33 meters  they weigh as much as 181 tons. The largest dinosaur weighed only 60 tons.

The whale is not only the world's biggest animal, but it is also one of  (clever) animals. We know that whales can communicate with another, although we do not know what they are saying. One day perhaps we will learn  (talk) to whales, and then they will be able to tell us about  (they).

There are lots of stories  whales, and maybe the most famous one is called Moby Dick, which was written by the American writer, Herman Melville. He spends a lot of time  (do) research on whales. In this story, a sailor-Captain Ahab makes an effort to kill  very big white whale named Moby Dick.  (sad), there are not many kinds of whales left. People have killed them for  (thousand) of years for food and other things. However, there are now laws to stop people killing most kinds of whales, so perhaps there will be more of them in the years to come.

Once upon a time, a king dressed up and went to a local village. He placed a large stone in the middle of the main road and hid gold coins under the stone. Then he hid behind a huge tree and watched.

The first person down the street was a milkman with his cart (小车) . He crashed (相撞) into the stone and the milk spread all over the ground. "What fool put this stone here?" he shouted. He picked himself up and angrily went away.

After a while, a group of women came along, each balancing a pot of water on her head. One woman tripped over (绊倒) the stone and her water pot went crashing to the ground. She picked herself up and walked away in tears. Neither she nor her friends thought about moving the stone out of the road.

The king watched all day as many people complained about the stone, but he found nobody was willing to move it. The king wondered, "Is there no one in this village who feels any responsibility (责任) to keep their neighbors from harm (伤害) "

Just then, the king saw a young girl coming along. She was the daughter of a local farmer. She had been working all day and was very tired. But when she saw the stone, she said to herself, "This stone is a danger to anyone who comes down the road after dark. I'll move it out of the way. "

After a great deal of effort, the girl finally succeeded in moving the stone to the side of the road. Imagine her surprise when she saw the gold coins where the stone had been!

Just then, the king stepped out from behind the tree. "Oh sir, "the girl said. "Is this gold yours? If not, we surely must find the owner, for he will certainly miss it. "
