Are you interested in reading newspapers? Many people say newspapers are at death's door.
Every year some newspapers go out of business. But why are things so bad for newspapers?
Newspapers have a long history. The first newspaper was born in the 1600s. Newspapers saw their most successful time in the early 20th century.
However, because of the birth of the radio and TV, newspapers began to fall. By the mid-20thcentury, people simply didn't have to depend on newspapers for news any more. Some breaking news could be reported much more quickly via broadcast media (广播媒体). As a result, afternoon newspapers were the first to die. People coming home from work turned on the TV instead of opening a newspaper. But newspapers still managed to survive. Although they couldn't compete with the television in terms of speed(速度), they could provide in-depth reports.
But newspapers had another heavier blow in the1990s. With the birth of the Internet, lots of information became free. Many newspaper readers preferred to read news online for free. In today's world, it is still the same.
So where will newspapers go in the future? Will they die? Maybe not. Now many newspapers are changing. They are trying to keep pace with the development of society by using digital(数字的)technology.
After all, people still want news. And many say that newspapers are still an important source of in-depth news and opinions. If newspapers disappear completely, there will be nothing to take their place.
