Proms(毕业舞会)are a big part of high school for students in the UK. A school prom is a dance party to celebrate an important date at school, such as the end of high school or completing school exams.

Proms are usually held in June, around the end of exam time. The idea is to have fun with your school friends. Some schools hold a luxury (豪华)party in a five-star hotel. Others have a more basic dinner in the school itself.

Some students think that the prom is something that they have looked forward to since the first day when they come into the school. They even think going to the prom is the most important thing. It's a time for them to forget schoolwork, dress up and have fun with their friends. On the prom night, girls put on their beautiful evening dress and high heels (高跟鞋). Boys usually dress up in a suit with a tic (西服配领带).

The right haircut and make-up are important too. Some beauty salons (美容店)offer a special prom deal which includes hair and make-up for young people. What's more, taking a great car to the prom is very popular. The party can start on the way to the dinner or dance. Part of the fun for some prom-goers is to drive around town in their best clothes and make sure that everyone sees them.

Now, more than 85 percent of schools in Britain have a prom. But recently, because of COVID-19, many schools cancelled the prom. Some girls said they felt totally sad, because they had bought their prom dresses and waited for the day for a long time. Some students decided to hold the prom online. Online proms took place on sites like Zoom, YouTube, Twitch and TikTok. "We treated it just like we would if we were attending an in-person prom. A friend of mine started it and she invited several people. She played music the whole time and we even danced together. Many people joined us later and we met many new friends from around the world. We had a fun time talking and getting to know each other, "one student said.

Online proms have become so popular that celebrities (名人)even hold their proms or join in one to make sure students don't miss out on the prom experience.
