In Japan, primary schools use manga(日本漫画)to help teach lessons. What's more, a university in Kyoto has a Manga Department. Students who take a class there will have Astro Boy on their reading list. The cute robot with big eyes and black hair is still popular across the world. The artist behind Astro Boy is Osamu Tezuka, who is known as the God of manga. He also made Black Jack, one of the first medical(医学的)comic books. Tezuka was a doctor himself, so he had the ability to make the stories lively.

Astro Boy and Black Jack started a new type for comic books in Japan. Tezuka once said that the comics were able to be more than just making people laugh.

Five years after Tezuka's death, a museum to celebrate his life and his comic art opened in his hometown. There, visitors can watch Tezuka's short films, view his art, and learn about his life. You can also see his drawings, human­sized models as well. A visit there is like watching through the pages of his comic books.

The world of comic books and manga cannot be kept in pages. It is on movie screens, at schools, and in museums. Although you may have never opened a comic book, you may already be a comic lover.

Wu Di, 36, now works in the Changping District of Beijing.

Ten years ago, her father had Alzheimer(阿尔兹海默症). As his illness became worse, she was worried and searched for information about it.

In 2014, Wu's mother fell and broke her legs. Facing such difficult condition, she decided to resign and return home.

From the end of 2015, Wu looked after her father. Wu had to do many small things every day and couldn't sleep enough. What's more, she found her life boring at that time.

In order to make her life more interesting, she began to teach her father to draw and play games and tried many ways to make him happy. She also started to paint snippets(片段) from her life into comics. In two years, she painted over 100 comics.

Earlier this year, the general manager of a private nursing home was interested in Wu's comics and asked her to work for them. Wu accepted because she knew that her parents might need to live in a nursing home a few years later. She paid a carer to look after her father and she still went back to stay at home for some days every few weeks.

Wu said the work in the nursing home made her grow up again. She feels happy to have a new life now.

As a boy, Jim was in poor health. When he had to spend time4, he drew pictures. He added words to his pictures to make them5.

After college Jim worked a few years at an advertisement company. In 1969, he got a job to help a cartoonist. Jim noticed6there were many comic strips about dogs.7there were few about cats. He thought that was strange because the world was full of cat lovers. He remembered his 25 cats. They gave8ideas for the comic strip about a cat. In the comic strip, Garfield became the main character in daily difficult experiences with Jon, his owner, and9characters. He is lazy, funny and hungry.

Jim Davis has received many awards(奖) for his work. He10the Best Humor Strip Cartoonist of the Year Award twice. So far, he has won four Emmys(艾美奖).
