If you have no special plans for your holidays, why not spend your time helping others? More and more people in the USA volunteer (自愿) to spend their school holidays working for others. And they don't do it for money. Here are some of their stories.

Alice Hamilton, 1 7

I'm going to help the Forest Centre build new hiking paths in the mountains. It's going to be terrific-I'll spend the whole summer living in the tent and breathing the clean mountain air. I'm going to sleep under the stars. It'll be a nice spot, and I'll be able to do something good at the same time.

Jason Moore, 18

This summer, I'm going to volunteer with Special House Program. They build good, low-cost houses and sell them to families that are not very rich. They'll teach me what to do, so I'll help people and also have a chance to learn how to build houses.

Trish Anderson, 16

I'm going to teach kids who have trouble reading. I'll work for a program called "Reading for Life". Every day, I'm going to help kids choose and read books that they like. I want to be a teacher and I love children and reading, so this is going to be a great experience for me.

Have you ever heard of the saying, "Eat well at breakfast; eat enough at lunch; eat less at supper." It (show) that breakfast is the most important one. If you don't have breakfast, you will feel h, no energy or power, and you can't work well. But (如果) you eat a certain kind of breakfast, you will work (well). So e      breakfast is good for your health. It can give you e energy so that you can work all day. A h breakfast could be bread, eggs, milk and fruit. If you eat breakfast b going to school, you will learn more quickly, and (听) with more attention in class.

Get up (early) so that you would have enough time for your breakfast. Healthy breakfast can make you smile easily and make your life colorful.

Have you ever been ill？ When you are ill, you must be unhappy because your body becomes hot,and there are pains all over your body. You don't want to work, you stay in bed,feeling very sad.

What makes us ill? It is germs（细菌）. Germs are everywhere. They arevery small and you can't find them with your eyes, but you can see them with amicroscope. They are very small and there could be hundreds of them on a verysmall thing.

Germs are always found in dirty water. When we look atdirty water under the microscope, we shall see them in it. So your father andmother will not let you drink dirty water.

    Germs aren'tfound only in water. They are found in air and dust. If you cut your finger, ifsome of the dust from the floor goes into the cut（割开处）,some of the germs would go into your finger. Your finger wouldbecome big and red, and you will have much pain in it. Sometimes the germswould go into all of your body, and you would have pain everywhere.
