Light pollution is a problem in many cities around the world. You can see the glow(暗淡的光)of many cities in the night sky. This is sky glow. Some cities give off so much light that they can be seen from space!
Light can shine into people's homes and keep them awake at night. Too bright light can make drivers unable to see for a long time.
Too much light can make seeing stars harder. For example, people built an observatory(天文台) on Palomar Mountain in the 1990s because the area was dark. But over the years, the local people have built more and more buildings in southern California and the lights of the cities have caused sky glow in the night sky.
You can help stop light pollution and save energy by turning off lights when you aren't using them, using lower watt bulbs(较低瓦数的灯泡) if you don't need bright light.
A. Working under bright lights in the workplace all day long can make people ill. B. It comes from streetlights, building lights, lights on billboards (广告牌) and so on.
C. The Palomar Observatory is trying to work with the local government to keep the light down so they can continue their important work.
D. Too much light is not only a waste of energy, but also it can affect people.
