On Saturday morning, when David got up, he saw a yellow bike in his bedroom.  

    After breakfast, he tried to ride it. Oh, no! He fell off it.  In the end, he said to himself, "I can't do it."

    "You can," said his dad. "Maybe(或许) not the first time you try, or the second time. "

    "But I can't," David said. ""

    The next afternoon, David's dad said to David, "Since (既然) you can't ride it, what about giving it to Jack, your cousin? "

    David didn't think that was a good idea, so he took the bike out and had six more tries. Soon, he began to enjoy riding it.

    Once a man's ship broke(打破) into pieces(碎片) on a small, lonely island(孤岛). There was no one living on this island, so he hoped that someone could come to save him. Every day he watched the sea, but no ships ever appeared(出现). The man was very sad(难过的).

    He thought he should do something to save himself. He built a little house out of wood(木头). But one day, after looking for food, he arrived home to find his little house on fire. The smoke rose(升起) to the sky. And everything was lost. He was full of sadness and anger(愤怒). "God, how could you do this to me?" he cried.

    Early the next day, however, the sound of a ship woke(唤醒) him up. The ship was coming to the island. It came to save him. "How did you know I was here?" the man asked those people. "We saw your smoke signal(信号)," they answered.

    It is easy to get discouraged when things are going badly. But we shouldn't lose heart(失去信心), because hope is at work in our lives. Remember, next time your little house is burning(烧毁) to the ground, it just may bring you better luck.

    The winter holidays(寒假) were here at last! It was Nami's work to make a present for everyone in her family. She did it every year.

    Grandma loves flowers. So Nami drew a picture of flowers for her grandma. Grandpa loves cakes. So Nami made her grandpa a banana cake. Cousin Miko loves elephants. So Nami wrote her cousin an elephant story. Uncle Yuri collects coins(收集硬币). So Nami made her uncle a large clay(陶土).

    Nami didn't know what to make for Aunt Hoshi! She didn't know what was special(特别的) to her aunt. Nami went to find it out.

    First, Nami saw that Aunt Hoshi had a photo of a basketball player in her room. Next, Nami saw Aunt Hoshi's pants. They had small pictures of basketballs on them. Then, Nami saw Aunt Hoshi watching basketball on TV. Nami knew what to do.

    At last, it was time for Nami to give the presents. Everyone was happy when they saw their gifts. Aunt Hoshi jumped up when she got her gift.

    "Let's play basketball!" she called. Then the family went out and played late into the night.

    Bill likes going to the zoo on Sunday. He likes animals very much. Last Sunday, it was sunny. Bill went there with his brother. They got there at 9:00. There were lots of people in the zoo. Bill and his brother walked and watched the animals.

    There was a panda show at 11:00 in the morning. Many people came to watch the show. Bill and his brother watched the show, too. It was very interesting and they were happy. But after the show, Bill found there were lots of water bottles on the ground. He also saw some paper bags(纸袋) on it. That made Bill sad(悲哀的). He and his brother began to pick up the bottles and bags. They worked hard. About twenty minutes later, the ground was clean. Then Bill put up a sign, saying, "No littering(乱扔)". They wanted people to keep the zoo clean. Then they had lunch at the zoo and went home.

    Today is Linda's birthday. After school, her friends Alice, Henry and Tony go to buy some 1 for her. Alice knows that Linda's pencil case is very 2, so she wants to buy a new one for her. There is a new kind of red pencil case at the 3 near their school. It's very nice and red is Linda's favorite color. So Alice buys one. Henry knows Linda often 4 basketball.
