Two frogs(青蛙) lived in a village all their lives. They would like to go and see the big city. It was about 20 km away from their village.

They talked about it for a long time, and at last they went to see the big city.

It was a hot day, and they soon began to feel tired. They only walked a few miles when one said to the other,"We must be near there. Can you see the city?""No," said the other frog,"but if I climb on your back, I may be able to see it." So that small frog climbed on the back of the big frog to see the city.

"Can you see the city?"asked the big frog.

"Yes," answered the small frog. "I can see it. ▲ ."

Then the frogs went back and said to the frogs in the village,"We saw the city, and it was just like our village."

Long ago, the colours of the world started to quarrel(争吵). They all thought they were the best.

Green said,"I am the colour of life and hope. Look at grass, trees and leaves."

Blue got in and said,"Look at the sky and the sea. They give space and peace and they are blue."

Yellow said,"I bring joy to the world. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile."

Orange smiled, "I am the colour of health. Think of carrots and pumpkins(南瓜)."

Red got angry,"I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood(血液)—life's blood!"

Purple was tall and he said, "I am the colour of power. Kings always choose me." Finally Indigo came,"Think of me. You hardly see me. I represent(代表)the deep thought."

Suddenly, there was a flash(闪光) of bright lightning. Rain came. The colours became afraid. The rain began to speak,"You foolish colours, don't quarrel any more. You don't know that you each were made for a special purpose. Join hands with each other and come to me."    一 

Doing as they were told, the colours united(团结)and joined hands. They formed a colourful rainbow. From then on, when the rain washed the sky, a rainbow appeared in the sky. They learned to appreciate(欣赏)each other.

Once a company decided to give a lot of money to anyone who could find a white marigold(金盏花). It was very hard to find a white one.

Twenty years later, the company received a letter from an old woman. She sent 100 white marigold seeds (种子) along with the letter.

The woman was a lover of flowers. When she first heard the news 20 years ago, she thought she could grow her own white marigolds. But her children didn't believe her. So her dream of growing white marigolds was just that—a dream.

Still, she worked to make it happen. She planted some common marigold seeds. A year later, when the marigolds bloomed, she chose one of the white flowers and took its seeds. She planted these seeds and waited another year for them to bloom.

As time went by, many other things happened. However, her wish to grow white marigolds still remained in her heart.

After 20 years, she went out to her garden and found a marigold. It was not just white—it was as white as the purest snow. Her dream came true—she got the white marigold finally.

This is a story about a monkey.

  He liked the monkey very much. The monkey was very clever. When birds came to the garden, he drove them away. He also helped the old man in many other ways. A fly(苍蝇)came and sat on the end of the old man's nose. The monkey drove it away. Soon the fly came back again and sat on the old man's nose again. The fly came again and again, and the monkey became very angry. He jumped up, and ran to pick up a large stone. When he came back, the fly was on the old man's nose again. The fly fell off, but the old man's nose was broken.

 They do things too quickly, and they don't think much before they do. Maybe they sometimes bring us trouble, though(虽然) they mean to do something good.

Once (在……上) a time, there was a wolf. It lived in a big forest with lots of tall trees. One day, the wolf was very (饥饿的). It looked for food here and there. At first, it couldn't get (任何东西) to eat. It kept looking for a long time. Finally, it found some (块) of meat in the hole of a tree. The wolf was so happy. It (跳) into the hole and started to eat. After (吃完) all the food, the wolf felt tired and was soon (睡着的) in the hole. The meat was a worker's lunch. When he (返回) to the tree, he (注意到) the wolf. At that time, the wolf opened its eyes and tried to (离开), but it was too late. At last, the worker caught the wolf.

The conductor looked at the small boy for a moment. and then said to him,"How old are you?"The mother began to speak, but the conductor stopped her and let the boy say."I'm four years old at home but two and a half on buses or trains."

The mother had to take six pence out of her bag and gave it to the conductor. He gave her one and a half tickets.

One day, a cock(公鸡) went for walk all alone. Then he got (lose) and went into a stable(马厩). He thought, "am I? This place (be) dark. I can't see my family or friends." He looked around the stable and (see) a horse. The horse said, "What are you (do) in our home? This place is not for you. Get out of here."

The cock then knew that he was in the stable. He thought,"I must find my way out without (ask) others for help." The cock tried to run towards the door, he was afraid of being trampled (践踏) by horses. The cock (shout),"My good friends, please be more careful! When somebody gets lost in our home, we never trample (they)."At last the cock left the stable safely.
