 The natural world is colorful with humans, plants and animals showing different colors.  

 Human skin can be many different colors and it changes with the sun, our feelings or our health, for example. This is because of pigments(色素), which reflect light and make what the eye sees as colors. So when we feel excited or angry, our heart can send more blood to the face and the pigments in the skin become red.  

 Plants also have pigments. Color is important for them to live on. The bright colors of flowers catch the attention of insects, which then carry their pollen(花粉) from one flower to another. Bees can see colors we cannot see, and they follow these to the inside of the flower.  

 Animals also use color for their own need. They protect themselves with different colors so as not to be seen by predators(捕食者). The snowshoe hare, a type of wild rabbit, for example, changes color with seasons for this reason. During summer it is a brown color, and in winter it is white so that it can hide in the snow.  

 Colors are useful at school. In the classroom, colorful desks and chairs are good for students to learn.  

 Our clothes can make us feel better about ourselves. One way is wearing different colors of clothes.  

 Normally, when we are sad, we'll wear dark­colored clothes. But when we are happy, we often choose to wear bright­colored clothes. It's because what we choose reflects(反映) how we are feeling. It shows that wearing special colors of clothes can change our feelings.  

 For example, when we are feeling sad, we may feel worse if we wear black. And if we wear green, red or yellow, we may begin to feel better.  

 It's said that each color has its own healing power(治疗作用). When we are wearing red, we should feel more energetic. When we are wearing green, we should feel more peaceful. When we are wearing black, we should feel safer.  

 So remember, if you are not feeling at your best, you can try out some different colored clothes. Maybe one color has no effect on your feelings, but another will.
