Zou Ji, who was an official(官员) of the Qi State, was a man of a pleasant appearance. To persuade (说服) King Qiwei to provide wide chances for the officials to show their views, he toldt his story:

One morning, after he got dressed, he asked his wife a question, "Compared with Mr. Xu, who is better-looking, he or I?" "Of course you are. How can Mr. Xu compare with you?" his wife said. Mr. Xu was a famous and handsome man. Hearing this, Zou Ji didn't believe it.

On the second day, a guest came, so he asked the guest the same question. The guest answered, "How could Mr. Xu be better-looking than you?" A few days later, Mr. Xu came to visit Zou Ji. Zou Ji looked at Mr. Xu up and down and found that honestly, he was not the better-looking one of the two.

Therefore, he said to King Qiwei, "I am actually not better-looking than Mr. Xu, but my wife and my guest both told me that I was better-looking than him. My wife protected me and my guest needed my help, so they both praised (赞扬) me. In the Qi State, everybody in the court(王宫)protects you, all the officials fear you and people all over the state want your help. Therefore, you must have received more praise than me. "

Zou Ji also gave the advice, "If you can be perfectly honest and ask for advice, it will be good for our state. "

After hearing Zou Ji's words, the king sent a notice, saying that anyone who pointed out his mistakes face to face would get first prize. Anyone who criticized (批评) him in poems would get second prize. Anyone who criticized him in public would get third prize. As expected, people hurried to the king's palace to show their opinions. The area in front of the palace gate was as busy as a market. 

Sometimes, I wonder whether there was any love between my parents. They were busy trying to1  their new business. They didn't act romantically(浪漫地). They didn't 2  their feelings. They just got used to the company(陪伴) of each other, and I 3  it as kinship (亲情), not love.

Though scientists don't completely understand everything about sleep, they do know that most people have typical sleep patterns which include four stages of normal sleep. 

Stage 1 is light sleep and the body begins to feel a little sleepy, and the stage only lasts about 1 to 10 minutes. If a person wakes during this stage, it feels like they have never slept at all. The breathing slows down, and there is a regular heartbeat (有规律的心跳). 

Stage 2 is a little deeper as the brain makes the body relax and the heartbeat slower. The breathing slows down, and the body temperature(温度) drops as eye movements stop. This stage usually lasts about 20 minutes and it begins to become harder to wake a person up. About 45% of the sleep belongs to Stage 2. 

Stage 3 usually lasts about 35 to 45 minutes after you fall asleep. A person in this stage can easily sleep through many disturbances (干扰)such as noises and movements. Sleepwalking, night terrors(夜), and sleep talking may occur during this stage and the next stage. 

Stage 4 is the deepest sleep and it is very difficult to wake a person up sometimes. REM sleep or rapid eye movement sleep happens during this stage, which lasts about 10 minutes as the eyes move fast in all directions. Many people often have a dream. Powerful dreams may take place and this stage usually lasts longer than other stages, for up to an hour, and it may arrive about 90 minutes after you fall asleep. 

The four stages are part of a sleep cycle(周期), and a person goes through four to five cycles each night. After REM sleep, the person usually returns to Stage 

1. As the night continues into the morning, REM sleep time increases and deep sleep time drops. 

Here are some ways to improve one's leadership at work. 

Learn from leaders that you admire. You can get encouragement from any leader that has left a great impression on you with the leadership.  Choose the good qualities that you want to study, such as keeping their word, trusting others and courage. 

 As a leader, it is important to teach others what you know to help them grow in their jobs. If you spend time teaching others, you can enable them to have valuable skills and knowledge. 

Build good teams. Many people want to work in or be part of a successful team. When you build it, you have to know the advantages and disadvantages of members, and other things. 

Be a good listener. Good listening skills are important to a leader. With so much information distracting(分散) our attention today, This will lead to poor communication and make others understand things wrongly. Listening carefully can help people feel understood, appreciated and respected. 

Praise others truly. Sometimes leaders forget the power and importance of praising team members, yet this simple behavior is encouraging.
