Nepal has been a(n) (importance) trekking (跋涉) destination for over a Hundred years. In 1993, three sisters — Lucky, Dicky, Nicky Chhetri — had an idea. They were running a restaurant and lodge (小旅馆) in Pokhara, a popular base for trekkers. When some female guests complained poor treatment by male porters, they decided to start their own trekking business — one (run) by women, for women. They launched their partnership — 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking — with two main (goal): to give local women opportunities to work in the tourism industry, and to give female trekkers the choice of female guides for greater comfort and security.

The sisters also (create) a nonprofit organization — Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN). The organization trains and hires local women as guides. The training program includes classes in English, health, and (aware) of ecological issues. At the end of the program, the trainees get on-the-job experience as guides, (earn) the same wages as male guides. Some graduates of the program use their money (continue) their education, while others start their own businesses.

These improvements to the women's social and financial situations are good for both their families and the rest of the community. The interaction between local guides and tourists from all over world creates a vital cultural exchange, too. "I learned to become an ambassador for my country," says one of the graduates of the program.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Maybe that's why

many people may be open to (try) foreign food at lunch or dinner, but they're not adventurous enough to experiment with anything new at breakfast. But what about you? Below, we look at typical breakfasts in three different countries. Would you have them or are they too spicy, too fattening or just too different?

SOUTH KOREA

The traditional breakfast is rice and soup. People then choose extra dishes (go) with it such as grilled fish, vegetables and kimchi, which is pickled (腌) cabbage with chillies. Kimchi is so popular that the first Korean astronaut took some with him to the International Space Station! Of course, these days, many Koreans have such busy lifestyles they don't have enough time (make) breakfast and just grab a quick coffee and some cereal (麦片) or toast.

EGYPT

Visit any town in Egypt in the morning and you'll find street stalls selling foul medammes —beans (cook) with tomatoes and onions — and eaten with a(n) (boil) egg on top and lots of flat bread. Pickled vegetables are usually provided as a side dish. For many poorer Egyptians, this is their only food until dinner. They say the dish is "a rock in the stomach".

IRELAND

As people become more (concern) about their health, fewer Irish eat the traditional breakfast, or fry, because it has too much fat. However, many still eat it if they stay in a hotel, or they cook it on a special day. It consists of bacon, black pudding (a kind of sausage made with blood), white pudding (another kind of sausage), fried eggs, fried mushrooms and toast — all (serve) with strong Irish tea!
