After a long week in my boarding school(寄宿学校), Friday finally came. As usual, I went home excitedly after school with my big suitcase. 

When I opened the door, my cousin threw her arms around me. She just came all the way from Germany(德国) to visit my family. Then she saw my luggage(行李)and looked very interested. She thought I brought gifts for her. But when she opened it, she found it was full of a whole week's dirty laundry and smelled very terrible. This was because in order to have more time to study, I would usually take my dirty clothes home and ask my mom to wash them. 

"German students always do the laundry by themselves, "my cousin said in a low voice. Not until that day did I truly know the difference between Chinese and foreign students. Take German students as an example, they usually have a chore list, and housework is normal for them.

Feeling ashamed, I decided to make a change. I told my parents not to help me with my clothes. The next day, I got up early to wash them. It took me more than an hour to do it. Although I was worn out, I got a strong feeling of satisfaction when the smell of clean clothes pervaded(弥漫)the house.

After my cousin got over her jet lag, I proudly showed her what I did. As you can imagine, she smiled sweetly.

Our Chinese government is trying to stress the importance of hard- working spirit education. It released(发布)a guideline in March. But many teens do not value the importance of working hard and are uninterested in doing so. 

According to a study of nearly 3, 000 students by Ningbo Evening News in March, only 22 percent of primary and middle school students help with everyday chores around the house. And 35 percent of the students don't know how to do some basic chores while 28 percent of the students say they just don't have time to learn the skills. 

"Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, "experts say. According to the guideline, primary and middle schools should provide students with hard-working spirit classes every week. Schools can also hold activities to give students real-world work experience. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree Planting Day.

As children's first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. The guideline points out that students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills should include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

Pocket money Most teenagers in Britain get pocket money from their parents. They might have to do chores to get their pocket money. These chores can include cleaning, cooking, and washing dishes.

Whether teenagers should do chores

Once upon a time, there lived a wise man. Everyone respected him. His son, however, was very lazy and did nothing all day. 

The wise man was worried about his son's future. One day, he said to his son, "I want you to go find some treasure. I drew a map to guide you. " Then he handed his son a bag. Inside the bag were clothes, some food, a little money and the map.

Disappointed, he headed back to his home. On his way back, he experienced the same changing landscapes and seasons. Sometimes, he would stop to enjoy the beauty of nature. He also learned to hunt(打猎) and make meals. He had to wash the clothes and fix the shelter himself. He was now able to tell time by the position(位置)of the sun and protect himself from wild animals. He met the same kind people. This time, he stayed and helped them in order to thank them. 

When he reached home, he said sorry to his father for not finding the treasure. "There wasn't any treasure in the very first place, my son, "the father answered with a smile. "But I think . "
