China's restaurant chain serving Shaxian Delicacies (沙县小吃) comes from east China's Fujian Province. Its recipes have a history of more than 1,000 years, and spread as locals left their hometown to work in other places. It has already become a great success in China. Now, these snacks are popular in New York City.

Shaxian Delicacies has opened its first eatery (小餐馆) in the United States in October, 2018, but closed three hours after it was opened to the public as all the dishes on the menu were sold out. The newly opened restaurant is at 818, 60th St. Brooklyn. In the past months, the eatery has received an order every two minutes during busy hours. "It is amazing that the Shaxian Delicacies can open its eatery near my house in America. The flavors (味道) of the food here are just the same as I remember," said Ms. Zheng, who was born in Fuzhou City, the capital of Fujian Province.

Early this year, the company set up its first overseas chain—eatery at Takadanobaba Station in Tokyo, Japan. It's reported that the store made 200,000 yen(about 12,296 yuan) in just five hours after its opening. By the end of September, the 80-square-meter eatery has earned around 5 million yen monthly. "Our second eatery is to be open soon, and we plan to have 30 chains in Tokyo," said Wang Yuanyao, the owner of the Shaxian Delicacies' eatery in Tokyo.

The industry development center of the brand said that over 10 countries including the United States, Britain, Argentina, Australia and Canada, have shown interest in having the chain. Cooks from France and Malaysia even came to China for further training. "We will try our best to make Shaxian Delicacies a famous Chinese brand with

world-wide influence," said Zhang Xin, director of the center.

There is a famous English saying "You are what you eat", and it means what you put in your mouth will become part of you. Many experts (专家) use it to tell people it's important to have a good eating habit. For example, too much sweet food makes a person overweight. To avoid being fat, kids are told to keep off sweet food.

However, a team of American scientists have discovered something new about eating sweet food. "When we say some people are 'sweet', we mean they are kind and friendly to us. Perhaps this word can help us learn more about people's feelings and acts," said Brian Meier, a scientist from the study team. "Taste is something we experience every day. What we have done is to find whether we can know someone's character and behavior depending on his taste."

In one of their experiments, college students were asked questions about their character—whether, for example, they were soft—hearted or not. Then they were asked to make a list of their favorite food. According to their answers, the scientists found that the students who liked sweet food were nicer. In their another experiment, the scientists found that people who preferred sweet food were more willing to help other people in need and that those who don't like sweet food weren't.

The result of the experiments is that people's helpfulness or being nice has something to do with their taste for sweet food. So eating sweet food is a useful way to make people nice and helpful. Next time, try some ice-cream.
