Natural resources have greatly benefited human beings. On average, a person in Europe consumes about 36kg of resources per day, a person in North America consumes about 90kg per day, a person in Asia consumes about 14kg and a person in Africa consumes about 10kg of resources per day.
The three major forms include food and drink, transport (运输工具), and housing and infrastructure (基础设施), which together make up more than 60% of resource use.
Food and drink
This includes agricultural products as well as naturally occurring foods such as fish from freshwater and seas, herbs and medicines, plants, and so on. It is clear that humans' life depends entirely on natural resources.
Transport
This includes cars, trains, airplanes, and so on, together with all the fuel (燃料) that powers them. Nothing can be done without materials from nature.
Housing and infrastructure
Think about all the houses, public places, roads in your city or town. It is not hard to understand where all the wood, metals, stone and other materials come from.
Beyond these three major areas of resource consumption, we consume much more from our environment. Therefore, we must protect the environment which provides us with such valuable resources.
