Dear Agony Aunt, I'm a Grade 8 student. I find no matter how hard I study, I always get low marks in math. I have lots of 1 and can't sleep well. What's worse, my elder brother thinks I have a lower IQ(智商) than my classmates. So I always2 him. Sad Betty |
Dear Sad Betty,
Thank you for your letter. I hope my3 can be of some help to you! I know you are in a bad situation, but never doubt(怀疑) 4 ! Please believe you have a 5 IQ like other common students. Since I worked as Agony Aunt ten years ago, I have 6 many students like you. They seem not to make any progress(进步) in 7 although they are very hard-working. So I understand how you are feeling.
Everyone is 8 others and everyone is good at different things. So you shouldn't 9 yourself with others, although I know it will be not easy.
I know you must be very hard-working, but 10 your learning methods (方法)aren't suitable (适合的) for you. If you aren't sure about it, why not 11 your math teacher for help? It's a better way to tell your math teacher about your 12 and your learning methods. I believe he or she would like to help you and 13 you some learning methods that suit you better. You can also study together with your classmates who are good at math. Team study is 14 helpful.
As for your elder brother, you can talk with him in a friendly way. 15 it doesn't work, ask your parents for help.
In a word, the most important thing is not to doubt yourself. I believe you can make it!
Agony Aunt
Moms are moms. When you are growing up, you don't always know 1 they do for you. And sometimes they do things that you remember all your life.
My mom was like that. When I was six years old, one of my front teeth was very loose (松动的). When I touched it, I could wiggle it back and forth. I was 2 . I didn't know what was going on, so l asked Mom to look at it.
Mom said, "In the 3 few years, all of your teeth will fall out (脱落)."
"I'll lose all of my teeth?" I cried. "How will I 4 ?"
Mom laughed. "Don't worry," she said. "Each of us gets two 5 of teeth. Your baby teeth fall out just to make a place for your permanent teeth (恒牙) to come in."
6 , I was worried. "It will hurt (疼) so much," I said.
Mom said that she could help me. She asked me to sit in a chair and close my eyes.
Mom reached into my mouth and took hold of (抓住) the loose tooth. " 7 something funny. I will just check (检查) this tooth." she said.
Then, Mom said, "Open your 8 ." Do you know what? She was holding the tooth in her hand. I could not believe it. While she was talking, she pulled (拔) the tooth out and I did not 9 a thing!
That's just the 10 it is with moms. They know what to do and how to make it not hurt.

Now in China many restaurants are known for their pets rather than food. In these pet-themed restaurants, people can play with cats, dogs, ducks, rabbits or other animals while eating or having drinks. With so many pet lovers today, it isn't surprising that such restaurants are now everywhere in Chinese cities. ★ .
In most of the pet-themed restaurants, many cats or dogs are allowed to walk freely in their living areas and even in the dining space. Even worse, animal hairs are everywhere, and there's often bad smell in the restaurants. In one of the dog-themed restaurants, the dogs fight, jump onto the dining table or even poop in the dining area.
In October, there was a hearing (听证会) about the food safety of the pet-themed restaurants in Guangzhou. Some people at the meeting talked about their concerns. They thought the animals in the pet-themed restaurants might carry parasites (寄生虫) and spread (传播) diseases, which wero bad for people. Besides, although the animals are kept by the restaurants as pets, they may attack (袭击) people.
As more pets are entering Chinese families, they have become an important part of people's daily lives. The growing pet-themed restaurants have made people's lives interesting and colorful. However, without rules and regulations, the restaurants can't be good choices for people.

Caring about fish A three-minute film made by Andrew Older, a 13-year-old student from the US, recently won an award at the One Earth Young Filmmakers Asian Contest. He used maps to show how invasive (入侵的) goby fish came to the local river and how they are making the water too crowded (拥挤的) for other fish "Through this film festival, I hope to share my worry for fish. I also want to learn more about how it affects the environment (环境)." he told the local newspaper. ▲ People throw trash (垃圾) on the beach and even into the ocean. The trash has become the "home" of hermit crabs (寄居蟹). These "trash shells" can bring danger to hermit crabs. It usually has bright colors, so predators (捕食者) can find hermit crabs more easily. The crabs could also find it difficult to get out of the bottles or the tires and starve to death (饿死). Would you wear your hair? People wear wool sweaters in winter.
