One day, a boy had a fight with one of his classmates. He didn't wait until school was over, and hurried home to his grandfather . He told him his story angrily. "He is really bad," the boy said, "and I hate him."

The grandfather said, "Let me tell you a story. When I was a boy, I sometimes hated others for what they did, too."

As the boy listened carefully, the grandfather went on, "There are always two tigers inside my heart. One is good and kind. He gets on well with everything around him. But the other is bad and unfriendly. Even the smallest thing will make him angry. He fights with everyone all the time, and for no reason. He can't think carefully because he always hates others. It is difficult to live with these two tigers inside my heart. They both try to control(控制）me."

The boy looked into his grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which tiger always controls you, Grandfather?"

The old man said slowly and seriously, "The one that I feed. I always feed the good and kind tiger, so I never hate others and seldom get angry now."

Han Hong is  famous singer in China. She is always ready to help those in need. 

In 2008, Han put on a charity performance for Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, after a great earthquake. After that, she set  her foundation (基金会)—Han Hong Love Charity Foundation on May 9, 2012.

Every year, she put  (she) into the volunteer work of helping those in need. She  (raise) much money for them, sometimes, she also sings in order to cheer them up. Now more and more volunteers, including doctors, nurses, teachers and other loving people, join the group. Wherever there are  (difficult), they go to give the people a hand. When Han Hong sees smiles on their faces, she always has a strong feeling of  (satisfy). 

In 2020, a terrible disease (疾病) called COVID-19 broke out in Wuhan. She organized to donate for people in Wuhan instead of  (put) on a concert in Wuhan on February 29th. She kept working for many days and she  (fall) ill at last. She did  many great things for Wuhan that she became one of the most admirable (令人尊重的) artists. 

"Many great artists in the world are known for their great love. That's the amazing thing about human nature," Han said. We believe those poor people will become  (happy) than before. 

I'm forty. I left school 22 years ago. I don't regret many things about my school days but there are a few things I wish I'd known earlier as a girl. So here is my list of three things I'd learned at school.

□As a young child you try many new things. If you fail, you try again until you learn. Then you start school where you are usually only praised for doing things correctly. So what happens? You stop trying new things in case you get it wrong. I always remind myself: I won't give up halfway until I make it.

□I always wanted to be the best and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. I asked myself if I did things as well as I could.

□How much time do you spend worrying about the future? I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear usually never happen. If they happen, then they will most often not be as bad as you expected. In 6 months you probably won't remember most of the things you worry about now.

In 2004, Zhang Guimei saw a girl sitting silently on the side of a road on a cold morning, with a broken basket at her side.

Zhang, a local high school teacher, asked what was wrong. The girl told Zhang that she wanted to go to school, but her family was too poor to afford it. Zhang went to the 14-year-old girl's home and advised her parents to allow their daughter to continue schooling. However, they finally refused her. Unable to help, Zhang left. With the teenager always on her mind, Zhang was trying to work out how to help the local girls.

She came up with the idea of building a girls-only high school where students wouldn't have to pay anything. In 2007, Zhang attended an important meeting. She spoke, through media, to the public about her long-hidden dream. With the support from the local government and warm-hearted people, Huaping Girls' High School was opened in 2008. On the first day of the new school year, 100 students entered the school, most of whom were from mountainous areas. Since she started the school, Zhang Guimei has visited more than 1,600 families, traveled more than110,000 kilometers, and walked to many places to encourage parents to send their daughters to school for more than 15 years, so the girls could improve their education to change their lives.

Thanks to Zhang's efforts to help the students improve their studies, many of them were able to get offers from universities. Zhang Guimei worked silently for years, helping more than 1,800 girls in poor mountainous areas realize their dreams.

I've been in China for two months now. I want to study in a local university, so I took some Chinese classes. I 1 on China because it's a country with trade relationships all over the world. Studying here could be useful in finding a good job in 2 or business. What's more, Chinese culture is really interesting, so choosing to come here was a 3 decision for me. China isn't like I thought it might be. I thought it would be quite old and traditional, but in many ways, the cities are just as 4 as London. There's so much more food to try and it's all delicious! The prices are very low, so it's great for my 5 . The people I meet here are very welcoming 6 me as a foreigner. However, 7 anyone speaksEnglish in my area, so it can be a bit hard at times. But I guess that's why I'm here. I also get a chance to 8 the city. I usually get up early each morning to enjoy a big 9 on the street, and then I often visit a park. I'm really interested in kung fu, so I 10 a lot of time in the city parks practising with the locals. I love my life in China.

Perhaps you've heard of the huge action superstar of the 1980s and 90s, Arnold Schwarzenegger, famous for movies like The Terminator. Even now, at the age of 76, Schwarzenegger has never given up on his passion for bodybuilding and physical fitness.

As a child born in 1947 in Austria, Schwarzenegger had watched movies about Hercules(赫拉克勒斯,大力神) and dreamed of being as big as the heroes he saw on the screen. Schwarzenegger began working on his dream when he was a teenager, exercising and weightlifting nonstop. As a young man he would take part in the biggest bodybuilding competitions in the world, winning the titles of Mr Universe five times and Mr Olympia seven times.

At the height of his bodybuilding, Schwarzenegger decided to try and break into Hollywood. He moved to the US with little money, knowing hardly any English. But he worked tirelessly on learning the language and acting.

He wasn't welcomed into Hollywood with open arms, being told his ac cent wouldn't work, his name was too long and that his body was too big. "…Everyone said…‘You will never become a leading man',"Schwarzenegger said in an interview with Virgin Radio UK.

But Schwarzenegger wasn't going to be held back."I didn't listen to the naysayers,"said Schwarzenegger,"…like Mandela always said, everything is impossible until someone does it. And that's the way I feel."

Schwarzenegger went on to become the Governor(州长) of California in 2003 and ran for two terms before returning to the world of acting. He continues to act, runs exercise programs and has also written a number of books on personal fitness and achieving success.

My husband Mike had been working in Florida for five months. Our 5-year-old daughter Kallie 1 him very much. So Kallie and I were flying to Florida to spend a week with him.

The plane was full. 2 we did not get our boarding passes(登机牌) until we arrived at the gate, Kallie and I couldn't get 3 together. Kallie was 4 about the trip and had counted on me reading to her the whole way.

I asked the passengers next to me if they would change places with Kellie or me. They all said 5 .

Meanwhile, a mother and her two children several rows ahead of us were also in the same 6 . The mother could hold her baby, but her 6-year-old son had to sit with strangers. And nobody 7 to help her.

At that time, I saw a group of students on our flight. The students' leader 8 and said to the woman,"Ma'am, I think we can 9 you."He spent 5 minutes rearranging(重排) his group so there was space for the family to sit together. A 10 came on the mother's face.

11 , the man sitting next to the leader turned around to me and asked,"Would you and your daughter12 our seats?" We changed seats and being together made our 13 so much better.

Would that man have offered us his seat if the leader hadn't done so for the mom and 14 children? I am not sure. But I do know that 15 is contagious(传染的) and good deeds(行为) cause more good deeds.

Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a house outside the village. One day while walking through a market, he saw many  and among them was a basket of dates(大枣).

Seeing those dates, the hope of eating them appeared in the  mind. He had no money to buy them,so he controlled his wish and went on his way to his house.  even after reaching his small house, the thoughts of eating dates wouldn't go away. He kept  about them only and couldn't even sleep well at night.

The next morning, when he woke up, he  thinking of ways to make money so that he could buy dates and fulfill(实现) his wish. Then he got an idea. He decided to go to the nearest forest and  some dry wood and sell it at the market. He went to the forest and started picking up dry wood, and before eveningcollected a lot of dry wood and made a bundle(捆) of it. Carrying that bundle on his shoulder, he started walking to the market.

The bundle of wood was so  that it was difficult for the farmer to lift it and cover that distance. The farmer was tired because of all the work, so he stopped and rested  a while. Then he continued walking toward the market.

The farmer sold all the wood shortly after he got to the market. With all the money he got, he bought some dates and  started walking back to his house.

One day, I happened to meet an Englishman in the street and soon we began to talk. As I was talking about how I was studying English, I said I would remember at least 20 words a day. The foreigner seemed  be very surprised, gently shaking his head and saying, "You don't say!" I didn't understand, and I thought, "Perhaps this is not a right thing to talk ."So I said to him, "Well, shall we talk about the Great Wall?  you ever been there?"

"Certainly! Everyone  goes back from China will. laugh at me if I leave here without seeing it. The Great Wall is wonderful." "Yes, it is one of the wonders in  world. And people of many countries have come to visit it." As I went on telling him more about it, he stopped me again, "You don't say!" "Why?" It turns out "You don't say!" means "Really". Aha.

Several years ago, I spent most of my time at a mental hospital (精神病院) in our town. I found much joy there. At first it was a little scary to be there, but I stayed on, because I had a reason for doing this.

I volunteered in a locked-up (封闭的) environment. To my surprise, I found that a friend of my parents' was a patient in this hospital. I knew, when I was a baby, this woman wanted to keep me because she had no children. I looked after this woman and showed my old photos to her. Finally, she was able to remember some old things, and she said to me one day, "Dear, you should not come here. But I wanted to bring something happy into this woman's life. I learned that because she had no family, she couldn't leave here and go home. So I brought her to my home twice and I still remembered the happy smile on her face.

I have never forgotten this volunteering experience. This woman later passed away. I can't see her anymore, but I'm happy that I have done something to make a difference in another person's life.
