As a kind of popular dance of the Dai people in Yunnan Province, the elephant foot drum dance is based on the Dai martial arts(武术) and mainly performed by males(男性). A traditional musical instrument called the elephant foot drum is played in the dance. This dance was first used to welcome the new year. Now it is a way for the Dai people to show their joy as well as their village
culture. It also shows that the Dai people are friendly.
Xie Wenping, an experienced drum maker, said that making an elephant-foot drum is not easy and it takes about 30 steps and one month. After picking the wood, Xie needs to carve(雕刻) the wood into an elephant-leg-like shape and make the inside empty. The drum surface is made of cow leather(牛皮), which needs several steps such as leather selection(选择), cleaning, air-drying and so on. Then comes the painting. The finishing steps include tuning(调音) and polishing the leather.
Bo Hanming, 55, has been interested in the elephant foot drum dance since his childhood. He
started to learn the dance systematically(系统地) at 23. After years of practice, he has become a famous dancer and is invited to perform at all kinds of festivals and ceremonies(庆典). Under his influence, many young people come to learn the dance from him. So far, he has taught 132 students and some of them even become masters and teach their own students. Through their efforts, more and more people are deeply interested in this traditional art.
Both Xie and Bo think it is their responsibility to carry on the dance. In their opinion, all of the Dai elephant-foot drum dancers will continue to pass on this great traditional art in their own way.
Imagine taking a flying taxi to the airport, or jumping over crowded city streets at rush hour, getting where you want to go far faster than you could in a car. Believe it or not, you might be able to do these things in an air taxi sooner than you think.
An air taxi is something like a helicopter(直升机) that can carry people from place to place. And it can go straight up and down without a long runway.
An American company called Joby Aviation has started testing their new air taxi. This is the first time they' ve tested a taxi that' s been built in a factory. Before that, all their taxis were made by hand. By 2025, Joby hopes to start carrying passengers for money. They' ve teamed up with Delta Air Lines to create a program to fly people from their homes to the airport. Besides the pilot, Joby' s air taxis can carry four other passengers. They can go around 100 miles before the electric batteries(电池) need to be recharged.
Compared with helicopters, Joby says their air taxis are both quieter and cheaper. Users need to pay about $3 a mile at first. But over time, the price was brought down to less than $1 a mile.
Although the idea of flying taxis is exciting, some people are still concerned about them. The air taxis may be quieter than helicopters, but they' ll still be adding noise and traffic to our skies. Some people worry that only rich people will be able to afford to use them.
It seems likely that air taxis will be part of the future travel. But there' s still a lot to do before air taxis become common.
A Recent Survey About Students' Handwriting Nowadays, the computer has become a very important tool to help people to write. As a result, students are paying less and less attention to their handwriting. However, when they were asked if they would like to improve their handwriting, most of them answered " No" , which is very disappointing. Because they think they can type on the computer and handwriting is useless. |
Actually, handwriting is necessary and important because we need it in our everyday life. To have good handwriting, you need to follow these suggestions: *Try different styles of pens until you find the right one. *Sit up straight but relaxed, with your arms on the table. *Practice it for a few minutes each day. |
