Sarah Aspinall tells many adventures (冒险经历) in her mother's life in her book Diamonds at the Lost and Found: A Memoir in Search of My Mother.
Her mother Audrey was born into the Liverpool slums (贫民窟) in the 1920s, but it didn't take her long to decide that she wouldn't stay there. At the age of six she took a part-time job at a big theater. In her teens, Audrey stayed in the beautiful seaside town of Southport where she decided to create her own colorful life.
▲ . After the Second World War, Audrey returned from a trip to America to find that her beloved fiancé(未婚夫) had been married. Later she was married to a kind but ordinary local man (普通的当地人), and Sarah was born. Unluckily, Sarah's father died when she was seven. One year later Audrey set off around the world with her eight-year-old daughter. Finally, the two came back to Southport and Audrey got married again.
To Audrey, the most fantastic thing was traveling far to visit Hollywood star Clark Gable. Like other millions of women, Audrey liked him very much. Clark Gable was not only the biggest star of his day, but also a hero (英雄) outside of the screen because he had joined the US Air Force at war. Audrey pushed her way through the crowd and tried to reach Clark. Finally she made it and Gable shook her hands politely.
Now as a successful film-maker, Sarah wrote the book to remember how great and adventurous her mother was.
