In your opinion, what makes a family? What does a family 1 to you? On June 28, my parents celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Mum and Dad live in Calverton. They have been through 2 of hard work and good times, always supporting each other. As a child, I 3 my parents working side by side for spring, fall, winter, and summer cleaning or working in the yard. My parents 4 a house in Elmont. They never believed they'd be able to have their own home, and to them, it was their castle. They worked hard to celebrate it and kept it looking 5. They taught us to work hard and to appreciate everything 6had.
Mum likes everything—sightseeing, clubs, anything and everything. She is always active with the Red Hatters women's group and her gardening club. Dad, even today, can't understand 7 she always wants to go out! Dad doesn't feel unhappy with her for her not taking care of the house, 8helps her with the housework. The key 9 their successful marriage is that they respect each other.
With the help of my daughter, they also 10 new technology. Their latest present from her is an iPad. They use it to play games and search for the information from the Internet. My daughter and I try to visit them almost every weekend when we play cards and catch up on the week's news. My parents are like the glue holding the whole family together, making holidays and ordinary times 11to us all. I know we are lucky to have them12. I even save all of their voicemail messages, so I will have their voice to 13 when eventually they are not here.
But Mum keeps telling us all she is going to live to 100. So we will have a few more holidays and good times to 14 with each other.
They have shown us what love is, what hard work is, what 15is all about. To me, maybe these are the meanings of a family.
