Last summer I spent four months taking part in BUNAC's Work America programme, living and working in Peoria, Illinois. 1 knew that I wanted a proper job and got a taste of the real America.

I found a job in a country club and worked as a waiter. As the summer progressed. I took the opportunity to work in other areas of the club helping to plan private parties and other events.

l was living and working closely with most of the country club staff (职员)and we formed great friendships. I thought our friendships would last for a long time. The travel opportunities were amazing! I was able to spend most of my days exploring(探索) the" Windy City"--Chicago.

On my way back to the UK I stopped off in New York City. Never having been there before, I visited the usual sights, such as the Empire State Building and Times Square, as well as exploring the different neighbourhoods around Manhattan. What an amazing summer!
