    Winston Churchill was: born: into-a famous family. His father was a politician (政治家). However, when Churchill was a boy, people thought him a slow learner in school.

    Churchill was born with a stutter(口吃)problem. He even had difficulty in pronouncing "Dad" and "Mum" well. People around him, (包括) his classmates and friends, laughed at him. He didn't like his school life, and he (意识到)it was hard for him to pay attention to what the teacher said. Once, one of his teachers said angrily, "If you don't study hard, you can only depend on your father. He will (照顾)you all his life."

    But little Churchill said (严肃地), "No, I'm going to be a speech-maker, and I... "Before he finished his words, his classmates burst into laughter. They thought that it was (不可能的)for Churchill to make his dream come true.

    Little Churchill didn't (放弃), however. From that day on, he often looked at (他自己) in the mirror (镜子) and practised word by word, and then sentence by sentence. At school, he became active in class. He even asked to read the texts and often (设法完成) to express (表达)his ideas. (那时候), some students still laughed at him, but he didn't care.

    (最终), his hard work paid off. Little Churchill made great progress in speaking. Several years later, the stuttering boy became an important person in the history of the UK. His speeches during the Second World War encouraged thousands of people.
