Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks.

One day, Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.

Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes. The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided （碰撞） with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.

At 98, Dick Van Dyke still sings with his group, The Vantastix, and still makes it all look easy. When asked how important it is that he's having fun when he's doing it, Van Dyke replied, "My whole career has relied on that. It's such a blessing to find a way of making a living that you love. And some of his work helped define a generation. Take "The Dick Van Dyke Show"; it ran for five years on CBS, and it was such a hit that they're bringing it back. This week, CBS aired a two-hour tribute （致敬）, "Dick Van Dyke, 98 Years of Magic", and for the occasion, they recreated the original Dick Van Dyke Show set, down to that well-known sofa.

Early in his career Van Dyke was quoted as saying he only wanted to make films his children could watch. That got the attention of Walt Disney, who promptly cast him in "Mary Poppins". And his next few films were equally family-friendly, like "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," which happened to have been co-written by James Bond creator Ian Fleming. From then on, Van Dyke was almost always assigned to play the good guy, though he claims to have missed out on a choice part: "Yeah, I could have been James Bond. When Sean Connery left, the producer said, ‘Would you like to be the next Bond?' I said, ‘Have you heard my British accent?' That's a true story!"

It seems that in show biz the true legends never stop. In an interview from 2017 with his friends, Van Dyke described what it was like hitting 90: "People are more afraid of aging than they are of death these days. And I want to say that remain young in heart and there's a lot of good living to do."

It is no secret that China has an amazingly rich history and culture. My first exposure (接触) to Chinese culture came totally by chance. One day, I entered my grandfather's personal library and took a book named Tao Te Ching from one of the shelves. As an 8-year-old, the book's content completely confused me, but it provided me with an early connection to a beautiful and great philosophical (哲学的) tradition that still influences me today. 

Around this time, I also came across several cartoons heavily inspired by traditional Chinese culture and martial arts such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat. Both cartoons describe beautiful landscapes and buildings similar to those found in classical Chinese paintings. This further developed my love of the rich and beautiful culture. 

At school I began studying Chinese. My interest in the language developed early on, combining my love of travelling with my love of meeting new people. Later on, my interest in the language developed into exploring widespread Chinese culture. I wanted to challenge myself in a totally new linguistic (语言的) landscape and listen to the lives and stories of others in their own language. I have been lucky enough to have lived in China for around three years. I loved every second I spent there and there is never a shortage of things to see and do, people to meet, and foods to enjoy. 

It is safe to say that my journey to studying Chinese has only just begun and these first steps are only a drop in the ocean of lifelong learning, but as the Chinese philosopher Laozi says, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. "

Despite its benefits, drinking milk into adulthood, let alone other animals' milk, is a strange behavior in the animal kingdom. What makes it even stranger is that an estimated 68 percent of the global human population is actually lactose (乳糖) intolerant. Scientists are still getting to the bottom of why the practice began and continued. This research could unlock new understandings of our food cultures and even our DNA．

The earliest evidence of animal milk drinking dates back almost 

9. 000 years to modern-day Turkey near the sea of Marmara. where milk fats have been found on ancient pottery. According to Jessica Hendy. a scientist at the University of York. then milk would have been part of a diverse diet for it was mixed with other food. From its origins, the technology of making use of milk spread into the Caucasus and then across Europe. By the Bronze Age, people may have been using cow's milk to feed their babies.

For a long time, researchers believed that milk drinking changed as a cultural practice hand in hand with the spread of genetic mutations (变异) that allowed people to tolerate milk into adulthood. But one recent finding suggests milk drinking occurred before these mutations and might not even require them. In Europe. people appear to have been drinking milk for thousands of years before any genetic ability to drink milk became common. The ancient cheese making equipment might offer part of the solution: Fermenting (发酵) milk into yogurt. cheese, or other products reduces the amount of lactose. In Mongolia. researchers have not yet found a genetic mutation that allows people to digest lactose, despite the major role of milk in that culture. So some scientists held that there might be other potential factors helping. 

What we do know about the history of milk reveals how wrong-headed one-size-fits-all nutritional guidance can be. In modern America. milk drinking has been presented as a universal good. In reality, how milk is prepared can change the nutritional picture, and how much our bodies process depends, at least in part. on our own genes.

One sunny day, I drove to the airport and was waiting to pick up a friend. That day I had one of those experiences that change people's lives.

It happened just two feet away from me. I was sitting on a bench and looked around the big waiting hall. Just then I noticed a man, carrying two bags, coming toward me. He stopped next to me. There stood his family, the wife and three lovely kids. He greeted them, with a big smile on his face.

First of all, he laid down his bag and came closer to his younger son（about six years old）. They gave each other a warm, loving hug. Then the father looked in his son's eyes with words, "I missed you so much. It's so good to see you, Son!" The boy smiled and said, "Me too, Dad."

Then the man talked to his older son（nine or ten years old）."Oh, you are quite the young man. I love you very much!" and cupped his face. Then they had the most tender hug too.

Afterwards the father said, "Hi, baby girl" to his baby daughter. She was moving excitedly in her mother's arm and watching her returning father all the time. The man gently took his little daughter, quickly kissed her face all over and then held her close to his chest. The little girl laid her head on his shoulder in pure contentment.

After several moments, the man put down the baby daughter slowly. He turned to his wife and looked at her gently and said, "I've saved the best for last."He shared with her the most passionate kiss. They stared at each other, having big smiles. They reminded（使想起）me of newlyweds（新婚夫妇）.

When it comes to volleyball, we can't help（think）of Lang Ping. Lang Ping used to be a（fame）player. Now she is also known a coach. Led by her, Chinese women volleyball team, won the world championship in 2019, made the whole nation excited.

 Lang Ping was born in Tianjin in 1960．Lang began playing volleyball as a teenager and（eventual）joined the national team in 1978．Her height madepossible for her to play volleyball well. With time going by, Lang Ping played better and better. Lang Ping and her teammates played so well that they won champions several（time）in the 1980s.

After she（retire）in 1986．Lang Ping coached volleyball in Italy and America. In 1995, she returned to China to work as a coach. She was busy with her work to take care of her family. In 2016 Chinese women volleyball team won a gold medal at the Olympics in Brazil. Because of the victory, Lang Ping became the first person in the volleyball（win）an Olympic gold medal as both a player and a coach. And, Lang Ping and her team won another world championship in 2019 for our motherland.

He really did look like a tourist, with a camera around his neck and a bottle of sunscreen sticking out of his bag. The strong man sat at the table, drinking lemon juice and pretending to look at travel brochure（小册子）. I was stunned. The night of my car accident. I was heading for an interview in a shady dance club. Seeing human kindness through his heroic gesture turned my life around and brought faith back into my life.

I unfolded the tip he left. Among the singles was a grand with a pen mark underlining "In God We Trust". I said a silent prayer for him and got back to work, smiling.
