How to be a better student
Maybe you are a common student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here's how:
When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First set your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or televisions! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.
Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say. Really listening in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material. This will help you understand the next class. If you do these things regularly, the materials will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.
The purpose of tests is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don't be too worried.
There are other methods that might help you with your studying. You will probably discover them after you have tried these,
My name is Jerry Zhang, and I am a father of two young daughters one is about four years old and the other is only about one. I come from China and now live in the USA.
One day, my older daughter, Madison, told me she didn't want to be Chinese. Those days she was crazy about the book characters Madeline and Eloise. She kept asking me why she was Chinese and they weren't, and how she could have blonde or red hair like them.
This made me look for books with Asian (亚洲的) characters for Madison to read. However, I only found a few, and they were heavily cultural, and Madison didn't connect (把……联系在一起) herself with any if the characters in them. And she wasn't interested in them at all. Then she told me again that she didn't want to be Chinese, and it broke my heart.
In most of the books for children in the USA, the characters look like Americans. Few of them have Asian faces, although there are over 17 million Asians and Asian Americans in this country. I think it's important for Asian children to see themselves in books as interesting and smart kids.
So I created (创作) a book for Madison. Pepper Zhang in the book is an Asian girl. Her imagination (想象) takes her on a trip to creativity and art! I want my children to know-that being Chinese or being Asian is a great thing, too.
Dream House in California is not a house for only one or two children. It is one for many children. It's a family.
Imagine living on a cold street because there is no other place to stay. These children need a home. They need Dream house.
Once upon a time a little girl named Collin Rose decided to offer a warm home to these sick and homeless children. When she grew up, she became a nurse and made her dream come true. In November, 2003，Collin Rose set up Dream house.
Collin Rose's efforts(努力)have encouraged many people to help sick and homeless children.
“Every child should have a happy childhood. We may help make these children's lives better. Your small help can help them change their lives greatly. No help is too small!” Collin Rose said.
Do you like to shop on the Internet? I like to buy books online. The things in online shops are cheaper.
When I want to know something about a book, I write an e-mail to the online shop for an answer. I am shy. It is difficult for me to talk to the shopkeeper in real shops.
Sometimes online shops have pictures of the book. They can show you some pages of the book, too. I think this is very helpful. I don't like to read books in shops because the shopkeeper may come and talk to me. I don't know what to say to them.
I can shop at midnight if I want to. Real shops close at nine o'clock in the evening. Some people worry about the postman may lose or damage the things they buy from online shops.
But I don't worry about that. I think it is hard to damage a book and my postman is very careful.
Some people say that shopping in real shops is good because you can go with your friends and look at many different things. They call this window-shopping. I don't have any friends and I don't like to talk too much-it makes me tired.
I am teaching my grandmother how to shop online. She can not walk very far so it will make shopping easy for her if she shops online. My brother wants to learn how to do it, too. He is very busy most of the time. When he has a little free time, he can shop online. What do you think of online shopping?

A 50-year-old American officer came back to his school. The teacher asked him to give a talk to the small boys and girls there. The talk was about the love of their great country. All the little ones were sitting in a large meeting room. The old officer went up and began speaking. He said, “Boys and girls, I studied in this school forty years ago. When I was your age, we were not as happy as you are today. Think about it and answer me. Why are you so happy now?”
No sound came from the children. The old man waited for a long time. Then a short boy in front put up his small dirty hand. “Good boy! Please answer me, dear.” said the officer.
With a big smile on his face, the boy stood up and said, “If you speak long enough, we won't have Maths and Biology lessons this morning.”
